I'm pretty sure he was in the team at my first game. Ex West Ham goalie I believe.

I cannot remember the year. If correct we won 3 - 2 at WBA and he had a blinder (it may have been his first game). Shot stopper type keeper

RIP I saw him play quite a few times when I was a young lad. Me too. Almost certainly playing in the first game I attended in 63-64 v Leicester. Quite possibly opposite Banks, although that is a guess. He was by today's standards very small I think. Well under 6 feet. Just how quickly can 55 years pass..?

You're right about his height, although back then I don't remember him seeming any smaller. I agree about the time, it's frightening isn't it ? Where have all those years gone ?

Far too few or them (with apologies to George Best) devoted to women, champagne and fast cars.

It was 26 October 1963 but I can’t confirm that LL made his debut that day. Can anybody else confirm or otherwise? It’s frightening to think it was almost 56 years ago.

Always sad to hear the passing of one of our players. Condolences to his friends and loved ones.
Stoke has certainly had a rich vein of GKs over the years. Lawrie was an international for Scotland and displaced 2 other internationals Jimmy O'Neil of Ireland and Bobby Irvine of Northern Ireland.
Lawrie had one solid season for Stoke 64-65, before he was displaced himself by John Farmer. John left Wolstanton Grammar School early much to the headmaster's displeasure, who did not approve of a boy leaving school before completing his education to go and play football. But he clearly made the right choice as he soon displaced the international GKs to get into the first team and was soon earning more than the headmaster!

I am sure Waddo signed Lawrie Leslie when Bobby Irvine’s form took a nosedive, my memories of him are distant, although I well remember those ‘ tree trunk’ thighs, there was also a rumour that his eyesight was suspect on long range shots, however, his bravery when diving & saving at close quarters was exemplary. When he retired from football he worked as a PE instructor in the London area. RIP Lawrie, it was a pleasure to have seen you play at a time when football was a better game.

RIP Great Man. He was my favourite player when I first started watching Stoke. From a long line of great keepers that have adorned our club.
