I've just been for a couple miles walk after work here in Belfast, all seems normal. Local tv news reporting police are looking for a car with southern Irish number plates.

It's not the same lad from Dublin who recently sanctioned the release of names to the Birmingham tribunal. Think he was called the head of the IRA.

Local news, police are digging up moorland looking for another person who the IRA abducted and murdered in the 70s, Colombo Mcfey I think they said.

Local news this morning, 2 men arrested for murder of a 55 year old who disappeared last week, body not yet found. They didn't say if it was sectarian related or not.

Northern Ireland is quieter than it's ever been in my lifetime. Belfast is unrecogniseable from the city it was 20 years ago when I was a kid, the borderlands are safe to drive and the mood is something I never thought would see. Sure the sectarianism will never go away-it exists at our own football club FFS with idiots shouting abuse at our own player but put that down more to stupidity.

Gerry has very little to do with what happens in London/Derry. In the past when he sat on the IRAs Army Council he might have done but his main sphere of influence was Belfast. The dissident Republicans in Derry are only a small minority and have no links, apparently, with any other dissident groups in Belfast or South Armagh. Most people in Northern Ireland do not want a return to The Troubles and there is very little support for these scumbags. Of course, Brexit will be used to push their own agenda for a 'United Ireland' which in Derry, means, any excuse for a scrap with the security forces.

Interestingly when the recent inquest was on regarding the Birmingham bombings the IRA witness was sanctioned to speak by the IRA head in Dublin.

What is the appetite like around the idea of a united Ireland? Is it inevitable or not? Admittedly I haven't got clue but I've always had a hunch that it is inevitable, not sure why to be fair...?

Ireland should be united. I can't imagine there's any appetite from the English to hold on to NI. There was no appetite to hold on to Scotland pre referendum.

Ireland should be united. I think 750,000 protestants in Northern Ireland might disagree. That's why it isn't. Although the UK Government would love to dis-engage. And Dublin don't want 750,000 Prods kicking off saying they want to remain part of the UK. Which they would. And which Army would be on the street's, the British or The Irish? And it would be a massive kick in the face for all those who lost love one's during Operation Banner.

The problem is those 750,000 Prods vote in the main for a party of gobshites whilst their counterparts do exactly the same. Wanting peace and voting for the unacceptable.

Ireland should be united. There are lots of Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, Rangers and Celtic who would disagree The 6 counties were originally Pict land, so it should be Scottish ?

I've got another bit of work to do over in Derry before Xmas, but will probably stay in Belfast and travel over for a couple of days, I can get a lift over. Avoiding the troubles that are in Derry, therefore affecting their tourist economy, and jobs if more people think like that
edit - changed so madbarking doesn't have to think for himself

Ireland should be united. Correct with the queen as head of state And before people have a go I’m a catholic of Irish descent What a lot of people don’t realise the Irish government would have major problems with a United ireland 1) they cannot afford the current spending in Northern Ireland 2) they wouldn’t want and couldn’t manage the security problems from the disgruntled unionist community

And who can we blame for this breakdown in the peace process. A conservative government that craved power and went into bed with the DUP alianating sien fain and stopping any hope of the nothern ireland assembly restarting as the dup know they have power over the tories. then over the last week or so talk about ireland being seperate from brittain on customs union putting unionist up in arms as they see it as an attack on them.
So yet another mess created by the tories
