Don't you just love these good old English pros?
Quiet as a mouse as we sleepwalk into the Championship then mouths like machine guns in the cold light of day.
Vince Overson would have them for breakfast.

Brits are like that though. Expect everybody to learn and speak English when they are here, then make zero effort to learn a language when they go abroad. Hypocrites. That’s one hell of a statement! But mainly correct.

"He had no interest in learning English" Not learning the language like 95% of all British players that go and play abroad then...... Brits are like that though. Expect everybody to learn and speak English when they are here, then make zero effort to learn a language when they go abroad. Hypocrites. I have lived in Spain for 20 years, most of the Brits I know speak Spanish fluently and those who don't certainly make the effort to learn and converse to some extent. On the basis of my first hand experience, I would deem your comment "utter horseshit". Nothing to do with Imbula that, he's obviously a cock.

And they deservedly get stick for that in those countries to be fair. These footballers literally work 2/3 hours day when they're not playing, why clubs don't have players sat in a classroom for 1/2 hours a day learning the language is beyond me?

That’s one hell of a statement! But mainly correct. The original post was to “broad brush” and “mainly” incorrect. Personally (myself), friends and work friends all who travel abroad endeavour to converse with local naturals as much as possible. Not only out of courtesy, but it being fundamental to surviving very basic daily problems i.e. excuse me how much is this, excuse how do I get to, excuse me is there a pharmacy etc etc. For ever professional footballer who has for whatever reason failed to interact with local nationals there will be others who interact and converse at different levels to the ultimate of being fully conversant in the local language.

I can only assume hughes was to blame for this signing rather than teflon and co. He'd seen him play first hand briefly before and in a season where we were still desperately trying to replace nzonzi and push on. The club wouldve presumably looked at how hed handled marko and thought that wouldve been harder than this, hence credit in the bank. At the point as well there was anyone of memory I dont think that was a troublesome character for Hughes signings wise. Imbula along with berahino and finally wimmer I suspect were the nails in the coffin.

God knows why it’s not happened here. A guy who had the potential to be a champions league player - we should have 100% done that to help him settle. But I suppose they have got to want to learn as well.

These footballers literally work 2/3 hours day when they're not playing, why clubs don't have players sat in a classroom for 1/2 hours a day learning the language is beyond me? The worst thing is I'm pretty sure the club suggest this to imports and offer them help and services. You know the liasons they give them when foreign players settle and need to buy a house etc. Bojan and Muniesa for instance learnt English here and made an effort. Even Joselu I think. I distinctively remember Bojan talking in an interview about how his lessons were going and putting up instagram stories where he's with his language translator teacher tutor thing. When other players say this stuff about another we really should take is as somewhat gospel I suppose or an explanation on how things went sour. Like Adams and Butlands post relegation musings. You can perfectly understand Glens point of view, theres a player thats come in, arrogant as anything. Doesnt want to talk, know or essentially fit in with them. Now im not saying thats the end of the world but if he doesnt want to make the effort to establish something of a repore with his team mates. What makes you think he really cares about his performances, effort on the pitch. And above all that his performances playing for an unknown beneath him team like Stoke. You can imagine what the arrogant sod was like

From the language perspective you can lead a horse to water but can’t make them drink. Imbula has the traits to be a great footballer given his pace, power, physique and ability. Instead he looks half arsed for the majority of the time and I suspect his half arsed nature on the pitch translates to his life off the pitch.
He infuriates me because he could be so much more.

What the poster of the comment you replied to maybe can't empathise with is that Bale isn't going to Spain for Spain, he is going to play at Real so I assume he's not bothering as he has no interest of staying in Spain when he leaves Madrid.

Or better yet, consult with you before every transfer. Oh hang on, it’s your hindsight that’s 20/20 not your foresight. Or could have read the thread on here prior to him signing and an interview that Radio Stoke did with a French journalist saying he was pretty uncontrollable. Carry on being Tony Scholes Lord Protector on the Oatcake though, the other seals need a day off now and then! Ooooooh! I can't wait until the next time everyone on here is crying out for us to sign X, Y, or Z and Tony Scholes says "We didn't buy him because I read a few posts on a message board saying that the player was uncontrollable". My bet is you'd be at the head of the charge to ca stigaterstrate him! Correction, how silly of me. Everyone will never be agreeing that X, Y, or Z are a good player for Stoke. I forgot this is the Oatcake, even if someone donated a Billion Dollars to every single fan, we probably still couldn't agree if that was a good thing or bad thing.

it's far too late now, but as soon as it became apparent behind closed doors, to the club, what a mistake it was, they should have put another spin on it and sold for for being 'homesick' or the ever vague 'personal reasons'.
a few questions would have been raised at the time, but we wouldn't be in this mess now for sure.

Good news if true. I thought it'd be another loan and that he'd see his contract out with us.
A terrible bit of business after the early promise but I'd take €6m all day long.
