Good morning
I love my technology but only recently upgraded to a 4k tv. I bought a sony oled. Second best one in the range. The top bollocks one was £8k which would have meant divorce.
Question is, is there that much difference between 1080p and 4k or am I doing something wrong? There’s obviously a huge difference between sd and hd but I’ve been disappointed with the gap between 1080p and 4k.
Maybe I’m getting old.

How far away are you sitting from your tv? That makes a big difference. What size is it? Are you actually viewing 4K stuff when making your comparisons? Your new TV should excel at processing 1080p. This is a USA/Canadian site but it's full of great info. www.rtings.com/tv

I can see a difference, for example crisper, smoother edges and deeper colours.
The thing is in the UK suppliers such as Currys etc only stock what other countries don’t want, for example Japan are now using 10k I think, it’s all about the broadcasters id presume.
SD makes my eyes go funny.
Question: What was the first match to go out on 4K??

I have 50 inch 4K and viewing distance is the key. I have subscription to Netflix Premium for £9.99 a month and they have loads of 4K stuff. The Attenborough productions are phenomenal in 4K but your download speed has to be >25Gb.

All depends how good your eyesight is 😉 Apparently though with 8k a large portion of people can’t see it due to their eyesight and the amount of colours they can see. I can see a difference in 4K and 1080p watching film and tv but not so much gaming

Above 4K level your eyes start to be the limiting factor in the visual quality instead of the tv quality.
HD to 4K is a big change but not nearly as big as SD to HD. There are actually 8K tvs out, but honestly there's almost no point in them, hence why they're not taking off yet.
