Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere but can't see it anywhere
Yesterday bet365 told their 600 odd staff in Gibraltar that they have to move to Malta or take redundancy. It's being blamed on Brexit, yet the timing of their announcement seems somewhat perfect to deflect negative attention away from themselves. I know they took a lot of people on 6 months ago from Stoke, young people who had no attachments and are now trained up, and so would naturally be more pliable to relocate again if needs be compared to people who've worked there for years and met husbands/wives there and for whom relocation isn't such an easy thing. I've said before I'm not a fan of the way they operate but it seems pretty low even for that

I remember as a kid reading about hundreds of joblesses due to outsourcing in Stoke, at least those companies were doing it because they were losing money and it seemed like a needs-must situation. It doesn't sit right that people who moved out for the company up to 10 years ago have been given 2 months to decide then maybe another month to get their affairs in order and relocate to an island in the middle of the sea, and purely because they can make more money on top of the £800 mil increase in their net fortune they made last year.. I'd have hoped a £265 million yearly pay packet would be enough? Maybe she's aiming for £365 million for the poetry of it

They employ plenty of stokies. They’re a global brand. Markets constantly change. It’s just how it is.

I stand by my previous comment from an earlier thread. I fucking love Malta, it's a great place - for a holiday. I imagine living on a small island in the middle of the Med will start to be a drag after a month or so, especially as the cost of living is considerably higher.

Saying that, the stokies who were persuaded to move here 6 months ago not knowing they were being trained to be the replacements of the staff who have made a life here can't feel great either - apparently transferring back to Stoke is not an option

Tough call, Gibraltar or Malta. Can imagine both being tempting places to work.

Tough call, Gibraltar or Malta. Can imagine both being tempting places to work. Well, if they want to have the same level of living on Malta that they do in Gibraltar then Bet365 had better double their salaries.

You can rent a town house in Knotting Hill for the price of a flat in Malta these days. So many Gambling companies moving there, there isn't the volume of housing.

Can somebody explain that please?

Yet when it comes to appointing foreign managers, Peter Coates has a whiff of the 'Enoch Powells' about him 🤔
