1st time for over 20 years I have had to buy a car, always had company cars with full breakdown cover etc etc etc...
Could not carry over my no claims, as it was a company car...800 quid full comp for a 5 yr old 320D.
What does everyone recommend for breakdown cover, RAC, AA or GreenFlag… All tips gratefully received.

I'd go through a comparison site and take into account price v reputation and service.
One thing I'd strongly recommend is that you don't auto-renew if you can avoid it. Once you've taken out the cover, the company you've chosen will increase the price significantly year on year, so shop around prior to the renewal date each year because it'll definitely pay you to do so.

I've been with Green Flag for years and would recommend them, previously with AA.... including dealing with a bad accident in France. Funnily enough I was with a friend yesterday at the Wigan v At Helens rugby match, came back to his car, someone had vandalised his tyre.... couldn't get the tyre off ( at first.... had to use a lump hammer) as the metals had " welded". He is in the RAC ..refused to come out because it had been vandalised, suggested he gets in touch with his insurance company.... possibly a general policy so be careful what you tell them when reporting a breakdown.

I was in this situation a few years back I just got a letter from my company confirming I had a company car for x years and had not been involved in any accident/claim This was accepted by all the major companies who quoted As for breakdown cover try opening a Nationwade Flex account. It’s £13 per month but gives free breakdown cover and travel insurance for you and the missus

What does everyone recommend for breakdown cover, RAC, AA or GreenFlag… All tips gratefully received. The difference between those three is that the AA and RAC will always prioritise trying to get you on your way from the site of the breakdown. Only some Green Flag associates will try that before towing you to their garage. I flip between the AA and RAC annually taking the cashback on topcashback each time. Watchout for the anti renewals whoever you use, pretty much all of them do it so it's worth making a phone call to ensure it's been cancelled before the policy expires.

They are all useless yonks ago I broke down and as I wasn't a pregnant female they couldn't come straight away, eventually plod turned up and said because my car was in a hazardous situation (slip road on a50 at meir tesco) he would get his recovery crew to move it and I pay the bill!! Turned out his and mine(green flag) were the same. Ps. Check your bank account many companies nie offer breakdown cover, holiday insurance, mobile phone ins etc

Only needed to use them a couple of times over 10 years plus. They cover you, not the car, so you can be in any vehicle. Highly recommended.

Speaking from experience on that if anything like that happened again tell them you drove on a flat. Happened with my dad drove on a flat didn’t know and it ground the wheel nuts into the alloys and it took me and an RAC bloke to lever them off. That’s if it’s a similar issue

I have been with Rac and AA and found them both a bit dear especially when homestart is included. My bank gives free Green flag cover and when i used them when my car wouldn't start,i found the service to be exceptional. The cars battery was knackered so the mechanic drove me to halfords in his van,i paid for the new battery which he insisted on carrying, and he then took me home and fitted it. Couldn't speak more highly of the service and i believe they are cheaper than their competitors.

Agree completely with Cranno. £43 a year for my wife and me for our 2 cars for the last 2 years. No increase year on year. Not had to call them out yet, but they come out top on the Moneysavingexpert site. Can't go wrong.

Same here, BJ - we've both been with Green Flag for many years now, having previously been with AA for yonks. To veer off topic (just slightly) for a mo…… I fondly remember my beautiful little Fiat X19, which I had for nearly 20 years and adored, although in the winter it could be a proper little swine and didn't usually want to start in cold &/or rainy weather. It was just as well that one of its best features was a heated rear windscreen, which the early-morning postman of the time thought was brilliant because he said it always kept his hands warm when he was pushing it.
