The second episode where they are robbing a house in silence is on of the best things in comedy I’ve ever seen. It’s on par with laurel and hardy for slapstick

I think they're filming series 5 as we speak.

I'm a bit of a late-comer, I've only seen a few- the restaurant bill, helpline, shoe obsessive, witchfinders, Krampus and the live one (probably ruined a bit as I didn't watch it live).
Absolute genius writing, closer to Tales of the Unexpected than comedy.
Which are the best ones to look out for?

They're all available on BBC i-player - my favourite is the robbing a house in silence one. There's a few I'm not too keen on and I didn't really like the live episode either.

there are definitely a few I'm not sure of but they are still brilliant and the silent robbing is a classic. I think what makes them so good is that they are funny, sad, ponient, scary or plain weird. they account for all tastes.

I wasn't overly keen on the live episode but looking back it was perhaps the most innovative of all. We watched on a fairly new TV that was just outside its warranty period and suddenly the sound went dead and the screen started flickering. I honestly thought the TV had died, complaining to the wife what a piece of junk it was and how nothing is built to last these days. We actually turned it off and then on again and there was still no sound only the BBC testcard, not knowing we were still being fooled by this live prank. I said I was going to box up this piece of crap TV and take it back to the shop first thing in the morning for a refund. Then the sound and picture came back, to my huge relief. They were sitting in their dressing room where Reece put out a message on Twitter asking if he and Steve were still on live TV. They got thousands of responses from viewers who said there had been problems with the transmission. It was very clever stuff. Very clever indeed. So many people stopped watching after the supposed technical dificulties it got the lowest audience figure of any episode of Inside No.9 - 730,000 against an average of 1.5 million.

Reminded me of that old Halloween program on bbc Ghostwatch, shit me up that did as missed the first five minutes so really did think it was live lol

Yes, it's brilliant and definitely the best one by miles. I switched the live episode off before the end because it was genuinely spooking me out! Incidentally, before this thread there was already an excellent 'Inside No. 9' thread.... I wonder if it would be possible to merge the two??? Any go, please, Admin???

Absolute genius writing, closer to Tales of the Unexpected than comedy. Which are the best ones to look out for? The 'robbing a house in silence' one! I love your comparison with 'Tales of the Unexpected' - that would never have occurred to me, Voidy, but how very true. On the original 'Inside # 9' thread on the MB there were several links whereby it was possible to watch whole episodes, including the 'robbing a house in silence' one. Those links were the first time I'd ever watched it, after which I rushed into Amazon and bought all the boxed sets. Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith are both truly superb actors who've done loads of other stuff, but the fact that they've also written the whole #9 series is nothing short of phenomenal - their talent in so many different directions is astonishing and incredibly rare.
