With the Masters just around the corner i thought it needed its own thread.
I love it. Try and play as much as i can local. Played Alsager a few times. Go to the range as often as i can. I really wanted to sort my game out this year so im currently having lessons from a guy called Ed at Crewe golf club in Haslington. Difficult trying to masters everything but im determined to get there and follow everything hes saying.
Onto the Masters. Id love to see Rory do it to complete the grand slam. I have a feeling it may go the way of DJ this year though.
Watch Golf as much as i can aswell. Open this year being at Port Rush. Went last years and it was great. Im off to the PGA at Wentworth in September.
I did say to a few folk my tips to have good seasons this year are John Rahm and Gary Woodland.
Will look forward to this Oatcake Golf Day.
To sum it up really. It can be the most frustrating game ever. Im going to improve tho and keep practicing and hopefully get to a reasonable standard because for all the bad shots bad rounds there are good shots good days golfing and i love the sport.
That is all.

I used to play til I had kids and now clubs sit in garage , used to enjoy but hated some of the people who played it, if that makes sense. I was never that good anyway. We used to go watch the PGA and match play at Wentowrth when I lived down south , but genuinely haven’t picked a club up in 10 years. Still like watching the big tournaments occasionally

A class sport and I'm not sure why people pretend it isn't proper exercise. I walk around 6 miles every game.
The masters is the biggest betting event of the year for me too. My national winnings will be on the line...

My national winnings will be on the line... I this it's because it's played in a sweater and stay-press slacks. It's not high CV but owing to it's sheer duration you crunch through a heck of a lot of calories and the swing requires a huge rotation and has all the muscle groups working in unison. I'd say the technique to fitness ratio must be one of the highest of all sports.

Problem with golf is, slow play, too many amateurs think they are good but I can vouch for them, that if they were they would be making money on tour. It’s the biggest problem with golf, love the game but can’t waste 5 or 6 hours in a day to watch someone else play

Carden Park - two courses for the price of one with the masters - not decided yet, i'm sure there will be a thread for it later in the week, I always back whoever ben coley in the sporting life website recommends as well as my own selection because he is a better tipster than me!

Three times a week around Wolstanton, as many seniors opens as we can get in, two weeks every year in Portugal ( understanding Mrs) If I had to give up Golf or SCFC it would be a very close call

Always look forward to the Augusta masters. Not a golfer myself, but had a few games many years ago, with a mate of mine. He still plays regularly, but I don't. Augusta superb entertainment, and what a beautiful looking course. I would love just to walk round it!

Youd think that with all that playing I’d be ok but still only off 16 (got to 13 but age taking its toll ) Everyone wants to hit it longer but believe me you’ll hit lower scores being good with a putter and a wedge rather than the driver

I played at Uttoxeter on Saturday and walked it, fucking knackered me and I'm not unfit.
I've only just started to play so I'm ropey as hell but hoping to get better with practice and out on the course. I'm hitting more bad shots than good but making enough shots to make me want to carry on. I'm alright hitting a good long shot but around the greens and approaching, I'm not confident at all. I feel like my wrists go too loose as I'm trying to generate less power. I enjoyed it on Saturday and didn't let frustration get the better of me but it is a tough game to play.

I think I can recognise your problem… It sounds as if you are standing too close to the ball, after you’ve hit it! I played a few rounds at Alsager shortly after it opened and had one major disappointment there….. I was in the 19th after a round, didn’t have much cash on me but was feeling a bit peckish. Faced with a choice between a sandwich or a couple of spins on a fruit machine which used to be there, I chose to have a sandwich, which I was quietly munching on as I watched a chap stroll over to said fruit machine, pull a couple of coins out of his pocket and drop £100 out of it on his first press of the button.

Get lessons, it is amazing how much you improve. I had one lesson and was hitting it 10-15 yards further, just by pro saying I was standing too close to the ball. Money on Scott and Molinari. I run a stables tournament at work, pick 4 golfers with combined odds of 251.00, all golfers above odds of 101 are capped at 101. Any golfer who misses cut gets score doubled, any golfer who makes the cut but then implodes in rds 3&4, gets score capped at 2xCut. Its good crack and keeps everyone interested.....

Picked up the game last year after years of just going to the driving range. Now trying to play whenever I can - just played 3 rounds last weekend in coastal GA. Not so easy in Manhattan! Having a couple of lessons really helped plus watching videos - particularly like Danny Maude. Playing here I rent a golf buggy - walking 18 in high temps isn't much fun. Plus I would rather work out to play golf rather than by playing golf. Will be playing 3 rounds at Trentham Park when I'm back next month. Hopefully by the time I retire I can actually play the game reasonably well as a senior.

My favourites are the clowns who can't hit driver 200 yards, then stand there with 175-200 left to the pin, 7 iron in hand into a 30mph wind waiting for the green to clear.* GET A F*****G MOVE ON! * When it has cleared, they'll then proceed to fat their shot 20 yards.
