RIP to a real talent. I still play Special Beat Service to this day, one of my all time favourite albums. They had a new album out a couple of years back with some decent contributions from RR, I remember putting some stuff on the music thread.

56!!! That’s rubbish RIP. I knew them when they were the beat. Got great memories of dancing to them up Cobridge as a kid. Is it true that Mirror in the bathroom is about coke use...

The Wonder Stuff did a cover of this (I liked old Wonder Stuff but it's not very good) but shows Rog was a good sport. RIP.

I remember Dave Wakeling saying was about mental health problems which makes sense lyric wise. Made some great records The Beat and great live. Last time I saw them Rankin Roger had his son in the band. Two of the original member left of course to form Fine Young Cannibals who never had much time for.

I’m not sure about the meaning behind the lyrics, but remember there being a lot of whizz and plenty of acid about in the 80’s Bath. I don’t remember there being much Coke around. It was comparatively expensive at the time. Nowadays you can’t go anywhere where some fucker’s not gurning their face off.

Yep, Miles is batting well above his average there, no doubt!

Very sad news , rest in peace Roger. Saw him once after the Beat had parted ways and he had a band called General Public who opened fr Queen on a tour and they were excellent.

They were bloody good albeit bit of an incongruous support for Queen.

I went to a Queen gig at Wembley but left before they came on (sorry not a fan) The Alarm, another bizarre choice but great band were supporting so went to see them only. INXS also played but gave them a miss as well

Kids laugh cos that show still gets shown on tv and can see running into Wembley on it, with my dodgy 80s blonde streaks and big glasses.

The kids of today dont get chance to follow a real cult/fashion trend these days. Music, clothes art rolled into one! Instead they just take a selfie, watch it on you tube then forget it by the next day

Saw the Alarm about 15 times- very few bands I ever go to see, was them SLF and The Pogues . My Alarm hairdo got ruined amongst all them moustached, tight T Shirt wearing Queen fans, that was just the women
