Hi,
I am a second year student at Staffordshire University and I'm looking for fans to participate in filmed interviews. From these interviews I want to find about football culture in Stoke-on-Trent as well as some fans perspective on Sir Stanley Matthews. If anyone is interested or knows anyone that may be then please email me at joebrackstone@outlook.com
Thanks,

Good luck with the documentary. If he'd been born (say) 80 years later, Sir Stan would probably be on £250k a week.
He might well be adorning the front and back pages with trophy consorts, diving in the penalty area, abusing and intimidating refs, and writing the first instalment of his ghosted autobiography.
What is much more likely is that he would not be playing for us.
On a wider subject, I am guessing the Oatcake has no fewer pleas than many other boards for help from graduate and post-graduate students pursuing football related courses.
If so, the UK should be well placed to fill a niche expert gap in the international market after Brexit.

I doubt the great man would ever dive in the penalty area, or resort to any dark arts, as he didn't need to do this to make fools of opponents who regularly ended up on their arses with Sir Stan long gone.

I met Stan in a friend's office at Stoke, I walked in and I became aware of a person sat on a sofa, I said hello to my mate, I then looked down and it was Stanley Matthews. I was surprised to say the least. Rob offered me us a brew so I sat next to Stan on sofa. He knows of my dad and I have a good story of my dad and Stan, so I told him that. (my dad won a pair of Stans boots at Co-op Tunstall. I have the picture of them somewhere.) Anyway, a cleaner comes in, thinking room was empty. She says sorry! I'll come back later, Stan says dont be daft come in. She cleans around, then says, I couldn't quickly hoover the floor could I? Stan says ofcourse you can. Lady says whizzes around and says "Lift your legs Stan" so Stanley Matthews and I are sat ther holding our legs in the air! He turns to me and nudges his shoulder into mine and jokes. "It's just like being at home". I thought I was in a weird dream.
What a terrific person he was.

Of course we will never know. But I fear you are applying the standards of the 40s and 50s (and indeed 60s) to the 21st century. Did he need to resort to such tactics? No. But the game today is littered with world class players who don't need to resort to those tactics. They nevertheless do. Why do they do it? First because it is now widely considered to be legitimate ("he was entitled to go down") to look for a penalty. If a player had done that in Stan's days, he would have been vilified by his own team, let alone the opposition. Second, because every team does it. Including our own. So, the argument would go, we would be at a disadvantage not to. A landmark culprit on this was Francis Lee.
