Who did a stint on there? I worked there for about 15 years in the offices, good times, a good family atmosphere albeit the money was lousy but I got tons of freebies 😎
Seems like a lot of folks had a stint on there at some time. I think after Rists, it was the biggest employer in that end of the city.

Yes it was originally known as Terry Blood Distribution aka TBD. Around 1987 or so it changed name to Total Home Entertainment aka THE. It was actually owned by John Menzies plc from about 1985 onwards until Menzies let it go and it was subject to a moderately successful management buy out around about 2000. It still retained the THE name. I think it limped on for the next decade and closed around 2010 I think. It couldn't keep pace with Amazon and the whole online market. As a place that dealt in physical items, books, cds, dvds, videos etc it was always at risk from change in the same way that video rental stores have gone extinct. I would say at its height there must have been at least 500 or more folks who worked on there. I left around 2002 and have lost touch with the folks I worked with, I suppose one or two of the older ones will have passed away. Surprised nobody ever attempted a reunion.

It became an institution for the mentally ill. Make of that what you will...

Reminds me of a bloke I was on a ship with, reckoned he was the only sane bloke in the mess because he'd been in a mental institute and come out with a certificate declaring him as such whereas the rest of us had no proof whatsoever. He had a point I suppose. What is it now?

Every time someone was waxing lyrical about the old days of corporal punishment with the standard line, "It never did me any harm" he used to say "How do you know?"
