In those days the entire “establishment” stank. So much was covered up that today would be incomprehensibley mind boggling.
Politicians, Clerics of all denominations, down to School Teachers, and so called Carers in children’s homes. Very bad times.
If you have I Player or similar look up “A Very English Scandal”. Also involving Steel and more importantly Jeremy Thorpe. Well worth viewing.

Jeremy Thorpe was regularly news for alleged scandals at one time but we'll never know all. I worked with a former road manager of a very famous UK star who told me some horrific stories, mainly from the 70s and 80s which to be honest didn't surprise me that much and the hold some people had over others in that era were beyond belief. Obviously can't confirm were true, couldn't be sour grapes etc although a tabloid did try and run stories at one time .

He wants arresting and charged as well It's interesting and highlights what employees of the BBC knew about Savile. I can't believe that no one knew what he was about. I'm sure I heard Paul Gambaccini say that he had heard the rumours about Savile. Presumably he heard them from within the BBC.

The interview takes place at the bottom of his garden, and Bill is holding a mug of tea. Bill comes across to me as a genuine truthful person. His description on Saville and the BBC was that everyone knew about him (Saville). The thing was that what they knew was nowhere near the actual truth. "Everyone" thought that Saville was in for a bit of a "grope" with fellow female colleagues etc. No one had any idea of the scope and extent of Savilles' evil work.

Having watched the Bill Oddie interview again (it had been many years since I last watched it)- Bill does go a lot further than I had suggested.
