This was a strange one too..
Another low budget cult one
Always liked this one too. It was darker, more serious than his usual lighter movies which aren't my thing.
Keep up the good work Wrecky, all these film threads are a welcome release from the bottomless pit of Brexit ππ

Proper action type, not like the Disney ones

My fave is Hammer's attempt at a kind of Kung Fu Dracula, the 7th and last of the Hammer Drac's. Mint.

I absolutely love that movie;it's prime fodder for a Tarantino remake πππ I know what you're saying but I think the '7 Golden V's' is perfect, who now could do a credible Cushing? {I was thinking Gatiss perhaps, then saw he's making a Dracula}. I love those later Hammers, attempts to break out of the classic Gothic 'monster' mould. Bought a cheapo sale box set of a dozen quirky Hammer flicks. Mint, they have a sort of creepy atmosphere inherent in them.

'Curse of the Golden Flower' is another personal fave, not quite up there with 'Crouching Tiger...' or 'The House of Flying Daggers.' and it's lacking in terms of kick ass kung-fu action, but it's visually sumptuous.

Have you seen "the Banquet"? Another one with Zhang Ziyi that came out around the same time, equally light in the kung fu department (there is some) and just as visually sumptuous. Based on Hamlet if I remember correctly.
The best of these type of films is Hero though IMO, it gets the mix of action, story and visuals spot on.
Personally I prefer the 90's wave of these types of film like The Bride with White Hair, The Blade and my favourite chinese film - New Dragongate Inn.

Just watching Triple Threat that has Michael Jai White, Scott Adkins, Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa and Tiger Hu Chen in it. Basically, it's the all star martial artists cast.
Also on my list is The Night Comes For Us and Headshot as well as Mile 22. Iko Uwais is brilliant at what he does. The Raid 2 is my favourite of his.

"A martial arts drama set in San Franciscoβs Chinatown, the series tells the story of a young chef who discovers that he is the Wu Assassin, chosen to round up the powers of an ancient triad."
