He's a machine.
At least we can always say we were there when Wilko kicked him up in the air at The Brit....

A great player always wonder though how good the original Ronaldo could have been without injuries!

A great player always wonder though how good the original Ronaldo could have been without injuries! He also had the weight of Brazil on his shoulders and a bit of extra weight round the midriff to contend with. Still my all time favourite centre forward though. An absolute beast.

Done it in the 3 of the 4 best leagues in Europe. And in those leagues has done it all. Will go down as an all-time great. Better than Messi for me too.

Messi is the greatest, he can literally do everything. He's the best footballer, he's the best goalscorer, he's the best creator and he's a fine athlete too. I'd much rather have Messi in my team. Ronaldo is similar to Zlatan in the goals he scores and the occasion, he's also done it in multiple leagues. But I don't know how anyone who knows and loves football can say that Ronaldo is the greatest or better than Messi. Messi can literally do everything better than Ronaldo.

Messi can still head a ball though.

Even though one of his biggest and best goals was a header? Just the one.. He's short and he's the greatest footballer, most of his play is going to be at his feet, but when the opportunity arises he wins headers and he scores them.

As goalscorers, there’s not much between the two of them. But just on footballing ability Messi is clearly the better player. When comparing things like ball control, passing and dribbling, Messi is on another level.

Cristiano the best in my lifetime for me. Close run with Messi, but Ronaldo also a great header of the ball.

You really are daft to suggest there's even an argument to be on had on that He's taller, Ronaldo wins a lot more of the ball in the air and yeah he probably is better at actually heading the ball because of the way his body is. He's going to have more of those chances, from a corner, for example, he's a prime target for that because he's tall and gets up high. Messi has proven he can score with his head and not just a standard headed goal into an open net. I don't think that makes me daft to suggest there's an argument to be had on it. I've seen a lot from the two of them and there's a big difference between winning a ball and actually heading the ball.

I used to always prefer Messi because his dribbling skills and natural ability.
Over time though I have come to prefer Ronaldo because he also has the persona to perform on the big stage.
Messi for me cannot be considered the best because he has failed with Argentina to win the World Cup.
Ronaldo has won the European Champ with Portugal and the silverware puts him above Messi

I'd have to disagree, they are both fine players but if it was one or the other it would have to be Ronaldo for me because he doesn't need a team built around him, he could pretty much slot into any and still do what he does so well, I'm not convinced Messi could do that and have as big an impact.

You did it on the Butland thread yesterday as well, you could quite literally start an argument in an empty room Here you note every aspect of why Ronaldo is a better headerer of the ball - taller, more conducive body shape, gets up higher. But you insist there's an argument to be had on it... well make the argument then! You've made the argument pretty thoroughly for Ronaldo, now make the argument for why Messi is better in the air than Ronaldo. You can't, because it's frivolous and you're just being contrary for the sake of it.

Orate pal, enjoy your evening If you're convinced I'm wrong why don't you just explain why? I'm not even saying Messi is better or on par with Ronaldo in that department, I just think it's funny how people are certainly giving up this mantle of the greatest of all time simply because Ronaldo is taller and wins the ball more in the air, I could find more arguments for Ronaldo's game as to WHY he is the greatest than him simply heading or winning the ball in the air better than Messi.

There's a big difference between WINNING the ball and actually heading the ball. Does being taller, having a more conducive body shape, having a higher vertical leap make you a better player at HEADING the ball. No it doesn't.
