Just finished season 2, bloody brilliant, well worth watching! At the high points some superbly funny lines which will have you belly laughing and at the low points very close to tears indeed! The Office aside I have never been a big fan of Ricky Gervais but I think he was just brilliant in this

Watched the second series last night (still can't get used to it landing on Netflix in one go) Enjoyed it although it did get a bit samey after a bit and not as good as the first series. Some really funny moments though. Thought the same.

Just finished the second series. Brilliant. As good as the first in my opinion. Stand out scene has to be the revue show. " Oh you dumpy little cunt" laugh out loud stuff then bam, another loss and tears. Genius writing. Like how the loose ends got tied up and you're left knowing he's going to get through this. Great stuff.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the shrink? Some of his lines I was really cringing, but in a funny way, good job it's Netflix as they were so close to the bone!

Loved the 2nd Series, but the shrink stuff was toe-curlingly bad. Good point actually. My least favourite scenes throughout both series 1 and 2. The character (the shrink) literally has no depth to him, so we're relying on him being really funny to justify his existence, and he just isn't. I wasn't overly keen on the character during season 1, and it seems like Gervais has given him more air time and made him more extreme/bizarre in season 2. Why? Just seems like poor judgement to me, and a bit lazy on Ricky's part. Like he just wanted random filler with a funny/outrageous character, which hasn't hit the mark whatsoever. Plus, and I accept that it's a sitcom and there are always going to be parts which are a bit far fetched, but are we expected to believe that Tony and Matt would continue going to see this guy when its evident hes got a screw loose and literally no help to either of them? You can just about accept it in series 1 as Tony is a loose cannon and his heads all over the place, but the character of Matt is much more sensible and level headed. It just doesnt fit his character that he'd continue going to see this idiot of a shrink when it obvious from the start hes a fraud. It just doesn't fit and seems very lazy. Maybe justifiable if it was funny but it just wasn't, not even remotely.

I agree with all of that relating to Denis Pennis. Too extreme, not big and not clever! Better writing could and should have given us a shrink with bigger problems of his own in order to better hold a mirror up to Tony and Matt's situation. I'm guessing that was Gervais' intention but it was misjudged.
