Does Bego permanently live down south these days? Does he still own his house in Newcastle?

Handled himself with fantastic dignity in regards today and towards the club in general, coupled with keeping us in the game since Christmas alone v Bolton, Leeds, forest ( to name but 3 ) but we’ve still got people on advocating we get rid
Take a bow Jack lad you’re not a robot and will make the occasional mistake but on the whole we’ve got one of the best keepers in the country so listen to the majority not the vocal few

I know we pay them well, but they decided to stay on and try and help the club out. Constructive criticism about his game is fine. But some of the other shit I’ve read and heard is ridiculous. He’s one of the good guys, especially compared to some of the dubious sorts we’ve had over the past 18 months or so

Just sad that there's plenty of people on here with there own agendas, who conveniently overlook anything good he does and just wait to pounce on any slight mistake.

I also find it quite strange that all the usual suspects who are forever slagging him off then go into total melt down when rumours fly around of selling him for £15 million, saying it's way to low a fee, you couldn't script it.

I've always considered him to be one of our better keepers. I don't see Stoke theatening promotion in the near future so he has to move for his career's sake. £15 million is a joke. £25 million plus IMHO. A move to bigger clubs that Palace or Bournmouth should also be on the cards.

I'd be fine with him staying.
But this summer does seem a natural break point. We get money to build, and he gets a fresh start with hopefully a mid-ranking Prem club and a chance to stay in the England frame.
He's 26 next week, and no longer a young keeper learning his trade. He made his England debut 7 years ago.
Another season down here and perceptions of him will change further, and it's obvious he'll be looking to move.
I think £15m seems about right with 2 years left on his deal

The fact that players like Jack & Joe get so much stick on here when we have so many utterly crap players on the books is a fucking joke IMO. Good players in a shit team will get coated in some of the cack I suppose...

There are a number of factors that could influence any decision to go. The club may want to get rid to get some money into re build, he may want to go because of his England career, or he may even decide to fully commit to the Jones dream, or he still may feel an affiliation to the club and consider how much Banks was respected. I think it is highly likely he will go, but I suppose until it happens you never know.

Now probably isn't the time for the full conversation but when that time comes, I think a cool head will say the time is right to part company. There is something that a lot of people might not want to hear, or understand right now, but we are a mid table Championship club that needs to look after itself financially first and foremost.
Goalkeeper is one of those weird positions that is uber specialised yet it's one of those positions that as a club, we've found it relatively easy to find good keepers regardless of division we've been in, for not a lot of finanical outlay.
Take the money and run. Re-invest it wisely and use it as an opportunity to help right the wrongs of the last 4 years or so.
Forget Begovic as a replacement though, he won't come back to the Championship aged 31. He'll kick around at Bournemouth for a bit longer and hope to get a club just coming into the league.

If you're being kept out of the team by 39-year-old Artur Boruc, you may well be quite happy with a decent Championship move! Would be interesting to see what the Bournemouth view on that is, but presumably, his form has fallen off the edge of a cliff to prompt that kind of bold move? Not particularly saying he's the first avenue we should explore, but he does know the area well and was another who really used to rave about Quy and seemed to be close to him, so he may not be against it particularly. His wages would probably be a problem for us though.

Whatever someone posts the debate immediately becomes binary and then quickly descends into a slanging match. IMHO Butland had one really good season but has never lived up to the hype that - being an English keeper - surrounded his early career. Right now he's a good Championship keeper and will be difficult for us to replace quality-wise- but if he goes to the Premier League then it will only be to a "lesser" team as first choice or as a benchwarmer if he wants to aim higher. I'm not saying he's Great and I'm not saying he's Shit either - I'm saying he's good - just not that good. However I'm sure some of his uber fans will have it that I'm slagging him off.

With the passing of Gordon Banks the city of Stoke On Trent has possibly lost the last true iconic figure that we had, one thing that anyone who knew Gordon remembered with fondness was Gordon’s humility. This brings me to Jack, for someone so young to pass on his memories of Gordon and there times together whilst showing such reverence and true humility has made me so proud to be a Stoke and if only for now that Jack is our goalie ! We have the right to criticise our players and some of it is justified, but we should also praise them not only for what they do on the pitch, but also for what they do off it. Jack has probably sacrificed one year of his career to see if he could help Stoke back to the Premier League, and has tried more than most ! Anyone who witnessed his wonder save against Leeds must agree with this ? So well done Jack, you have been a credit to the Club, Yourself and to the memory of “ The No 1 “ .

The same Bego that was shit at kicking and coming off his line? OK Yep, that one. Kicking can be left to the people that don't wear goalie gloves. And bego came off his line far more times than Jack ever has. Jack is an ok keeper, nothing more. Revisionist clap-trap. It was a well used cliche at the time that Bego was a great shot-stopper but rarely came off his line and could not kick for toffee. The fact that he showed zero allegience to Stoke City while Jack certainly has makes some of these comments even more bewildering. I can only assume that nostalgia has clouded peoples minds in these times of poor fortunes for SCFC.

The money we get for him and Joe can hopefully be used for more urgent areas of the team, I wish them both well if sold.
