All he had to say was that Churchill was a flawed hero, and did some good and some bad. A massive blunder just jumping in like that, giving ammunition to the Tories and moderate Labour voters.

I know what I'd call a bloke that turns a nation's armed forces on people fighting for their jobs, livelihood and family.
A cunt.

Aah, another Labour bashing thread. McDonells comments are poorly worded it has to be said though. He's trying to say Churchill was no Mr nice guy but Mr nice guys of course don't win wars. Unfortunately in a tory/right wing leaning media environment, every little faux pas is amplified. Personally fed up with both parties really, desire a government in the centre ground instead of lurching to the extreme left or right. I can empathise with people on Corbyn and McDonell and related concerns but at the same time, I'm baffled by the mostly tory love in on here; they might be okay if your life is going fine but fall on hard times, lose your job or god forbid fall seriously ill and end up disabled and it will soon become apparent how much they really care about you. They don't give a fuck about ordinary folk.

Some other things Churchill has said and done
"I hate Indians, they are a beastly people with a beastly religion."
"Palestinians are barbaric hordes who ate little but camel dung"
"When quashing insurgents in Sudan in the earlier days of his imperial career, Churchill boasted of killing three "savages."
Contemplating restive populations in northwest Asia, he infamously lamented the "squeamishness" of his colleagues, who were not in "favor of using poisoned gas against uncivilized tribes."
Churchill had cheered on Britain's plan for more conquests, insisting that its "Aryan stock is bound to triumph"
On Ghandi - 'a half-naked seditious fakir"
Most notoriously, Churchill presided over the hideous 1943 famine in Bengal, where some 3 million Indians perished, largely as a result of British imperial mismanagement. Churchill was both indifferent to the Indian plight and even mocked the millions suffering, chuckling over the culling of a population that bred "like rabbits."
Yeah, I'll go with villain.

They don't seem to be listening to ordinary folks concerns about immigration, which let's be honest, was a big driver in Brexit.

Churchill made some mistakes as a politician, some of them serious in his earlier days, and many of which he later regretted. But until John McDonell can demonstrate he has enough intellect and patriotism as Churchill had in his little finger he is in no position to criticise.
Frankly, for a here-today-gone-tomorrow politician to slander "the greatest Briton of all time" (incidentally proposed in that 2002 BBC poll by the Labour MP, Mo Mowlam) is surely nothing short of disgraceful - whatever your political leanings may be.

You left out Gallipoli. And the fact that Churchill as Chancellor in 1920 put Britain back on Gold Standard leading to mass unemployment and the great depression. A great war leader yes.

There were some flaws in Churchill, like in all great leaders. This is just a cheap shot jumping on the recent bandwagon.....maybe we should have Churchill criticed for having the audacity to face up to Nazi Germany? If this shower of shit get into Government we will get more of this and the inevitable re writing of history...just like Lenin did. Can’t wait to see the statues of Churchill, Fighter Command, Nelsons Column etc all replaced by that ISIS slag, Yasser Arafat, Gerry Adams and the like.😞😞😞
