I know that this notice will be overshadowed by today’s sad announcement of Banksy’s death, but announced yesterday was the death of an author who virtually everybody on here will have heard of having read or, at least looked at, at least one of his books. John Haynes, creator of Haynes Manuals. I know cars are too complicated these days but, back in the day, when you changed your car it was pretty standard practice to buy it a new set of seat covers and, while you were in Halfords, get a copy of the Haynes Manual for it too. You were almost certain to need it at some point of your new car’s life with you. RIP John Haynes

I’ve had cause to use his manuals, particularly with vintage motorcycles which are more hands on. I’ve got the Haynes manuals relating to the Mercury-Gemini-Apollo-Saturn IV space race, and they’re absolutely brilliant. RIP
