It’s a massive issue. There’s barely a single player in our entire squad that can stretch a game. We’re ridiculously easy to play against because any team with a decent defensive shape can just hold their positions and watch us pass it round in circles, and we offer zero threat of a counter attack.

Pace on it's own is useless. We've seen that with Cameron Jerome.

Pace on it's own is useless. We've seen that with Cameron Jerome. Even Jerome made a contribution though because the team without him was so completely one paced. The point is, again, that you can't do anything without it. A team that has some is almost always better than a team that doesn't.

When was the last time we scored with a quick counter attack?
The last one I can remember was Ramadan vs WBA, December 2017.
Therein lies one of the biggest problems our club has. We simply do not have the capability to attack teams quickly at any sort of pace.

I would prefer pace at the back , to two defensive midfielders sitting deep, to cover for a back four with no pace .
it's a contentious point , but I am sure lambert and Rowett, often felt the need to have an overly defensive midfield to cover for a slow coach defence , they could see being annihilated for pace, time after time, without that sort of ultra cautious approach
Its possible that lambo and GR are idiots , who have learnt nothing from a life time in the game , but its very unlikely
I think the way forward for us , is to sign pacier defenders , who allow the manager to play a more progressive game .

Arnautovic was the last player we had that combined real pace, skill and power and when all three turned up on the same day and he was fully focused it was a beautiful sight to behold. For me pace and power are the game changers- yes we have technically gifted players (although sometimes hard to believe at times- but lack power and pace. We never get behind teams, we never force them to defend deep because they are scared to hold a high line and we never ever out bully a team in any position on the field.
