For some reason a lot of fans seem to be excusing Jones of any responsibility. Like he has nothing whatsoever to do with what is going on, on the the pitch. It's all the players fault, and Nath is beyond question.Or change his clubs lol Let's be honest, that's complete bullshit. Yes, the players are gutless cowards who should be fucking ashamed, but the manager needs to carry the can too. Rowett, for as utterly useless as he was, managed to get a better tune out of this team and ultimately did a better job. And that's saying something. The job he did was fucking abysmal, yet Jones has still somehow managed to lower the bar. I keep hearing "he's just figuring the squad out" and "he needs time". The latter sentiment I can get on board with but the former is bollocks. The training ground is enough to see that McClean isn't a fucking centre forward. And if the training ground isn't, then the last game he played there should have been enough. And then we have Clucas at left back (Or Tymon in previous games). What the fuck is that all about? Why the fuck let Pieters go? He might have a system he's wedded too, but if he hasn't got the players to suit then he has a responsibility to the best job he can with the tools at his disposal. As I see it, everyone is giving him a flyer to just do what he wants, no matter how detrimental, and not hold him accountable whatsoever. The guys getting paid handomsely. This contract will make him a millionaire. He needs to pull his fucking finger out. We must all know by now that we have a huge problem, but this is the third manager since Hughes and we haven’t got any better. Look at it like an amateur golf player, who plays off a 12 handicap, no matter how much he practices he can’t get lower than 12. Why, because his technique is wrong, so to get a lower handicap he needs to change his technique, the problem is, when he changes his technique his handicap gets higher initially, which frustrates him, but if he sticks to the new system, he may finally master the new technique and from that he will starts to see the benefit. Thats how I believe Stoke have to approach the coming seasons.

you've had (and got) such a huge agenda against him from the the get go. we get it. you are bordering on being a spam bot. hard to take any points seriously when they are not up for discussion. you have your mind made up already. And it's a shame, because he's actually raising some decent debate-worthy points. But few people will take them seriously because we've all seen WD do his zany thing about hating NJ from day 1.

This job is too big for Jones. He hasn't really proved himself and doesn't seem to be able to motivate these players.if things carry on like they are I can see him walking.i know he has only been in charge for 6 games but things don't bode very well for the future.

Never seen a less patient fanbase. Can we all try and think rationally about this please. Look at the rest of this season as an experimental dress rehearsal for next. Jones will identify areas we need to strengthen in, and use it to coach the system into the players so it's second nature to them. If we're lucky it could begin to click a bit before the end of the season and we could even finish pretty strongly. Give him the transfer windows to build the squad ha wants to build. He's a good manager, not a fucking miracle worker. These things take time.

You’re correct he is accountable ,it’s his job after all to try and get a tune out of these players.
Whilst the players are certainly at fault on the pitch it’s Jones job to fill them with confidence and they truly look shot to bits every time they take the field heads down without a clue what they’re meant to be doing.
I honestly think the players all wanted a Big Sam or Moyes after relegation and the big time Charlie’s think they are too good for this division and the managers we have brought in thus the half arsed performances, Sam Allardyce would of got this team far far up the table but all ifs and buts and maybes now but we missed the boat.

So the players don't respect the Manager? I would say that could be a part of the problem, it happens in every workplace. In my opinion, any player who does not show respect and willing should be potted as soon as possible. My way or high way.

You can see there have been improvements. It isn’t as mind numbingly boring to watch. From Preston to Hull then West Brom you can see that they are starting to get it I think. I’m hopeful for a stronger finish and expect in a couple of weeks time we will see a very different side. It will of course be too late for this season but give us some hope for next.

I completely disagree. This squad is filled with talent but for some reason there is a poison at the club. Woods, Afobe, Ince are 3 who joined the club with glowing reports and have since turned absolutely wank. It's the players/deeper issues not the manager. 4 managers in the space of a year show this. It is much deeper where the poison sits. What we cannot do now is yet another managerial change, otherwise we look as much a basket case of a club as Sunderland did before the shit really hit the fan for them! Get behind Jones, he is the man for the job in my opinion. Let him put his stamp on the team, get his tactics across and then see where we are come December once he has shipped out the utter shite currently stinking out the place! Stay up this year, hopefully get a run of wins together heading towards the end of the season to give us momentum going into the next.

It's one thing to "put his stamp on the team, get his tactics across" - it's another to play a system that seems completely unsuited to the players he has and in doing so playing up to five players out of their natural positions. It won't have taken long for opposition managers to figure his favoured diamond or to spot labored players in unfamiliar positions - which makes us easy to pick off. Unless he changes his system in the short term to something that makes us more difficult to beat then there's every chance that the next six games will be as disasterous as the last and "stay up this year" will be anything but a given. I'm not advocating (another) change of manager (yet) - but the one we've got certainly needs s change of mindset until such time as he can assemble a squad able to play the way he wants to play.

With the vast amount of riches and quality of facilities available you can only agree with this. We don't half moan as fans but Stoke City is a fairly good gig, it's just not opened up to the wider audience of managers. I think Stoke fans are very picky though. Always have been. If your face doesn't fit...

What do you want him to play? 3-5-2 worked against Leeds but is that suitable for teams that will sit in and defend deep surely we would be even more devoid of creativity than we were against West Brom? Have Tom Ince and James McClean played so effectively on the wing that we are missing them not playing a traditional 4-4-2? I don't think the issue is the diamond per se. We have a group of players that aren't suited to each other and do not compliment each other. Our midfielders are all too similar to each other. The defensive issues against Hull and West Brom were individual mistakes rather than the system not working. Preston granted they clearly didn't have a clue what they were doing. God knows why we don't have a left back and he's playing McClean as a striker but I don't think the issue is the diamond itself or Jones is an idiot for sticking with it. They haven't played any system particularly well and the only time we've been difficult to beat is when we had 10 men behind the ball?

They haven't played any system particularly well and the only time we've been difficult to beat is when we had 10 men behind the ball? The whole issue of recruitment and the squad we have is another thread entirely - but Jones has got what he's got. However playing Etebo and Allen as wide midfielders when they are not, Clucas at left back when he's not, Ince as a no10 when he's not and McLean as a striker when he's not is only making thinks worse (as results would bear testament). So playing a system that requires it doesn't seem that clever to me. I can't defend Mclean's overall contribution to the season but I don't think Ince has been half as bad as many posters would have it (6 goals) and think his constant pissed off look obscures his general contribution - so yes I would see him back wide in a 4-4-1-1 with Vokes maybe benefitting from the service he could provide. Left back situation is bonkers I grant you - but Jones is complicit in that by letting Pieters leave (who knows what happened there) and whilst Campbell was far from the finished article he did at least give defences something think think about -albeit in flashes - so I'm not sure that his development is necessarily best served in a League 1 relegation scrap at Shrewsbury. I keep hearing that the "big picture" is all about next season but unless we can afford a wholesale clearout then a large number of the players we have now will still be here - so equally a part of that big picture is giving them some confidence that they're not a soft touch week in and week out.

It's going to take longer than 1 summer window and I fear that people will start jumping the gun too soon next season as well. The job he's got on his hand is fucking monumental. Absolutely massive. Given we can't just throw all the deadwood out, he's about 3, possibly 4 windows away from melding his own squad.

In fact I hope NJ does walk and I hope when he does he points the finger exactly where it needs pointing.
Won't happen because he'd rather get the pay off and sign the inevitable non disclosure agreement. He has a family to think about etc. Would be great if he did though.
The success of this club is being ransomed by two people who appear untouchable.

We had plenty of players out of position under Rowett, McClean as a wideman in a front 3, Bojan centre midfield, BMI left back, Allen as a number 10, Berahino out on the left etc. Least they have a chance of being drilled into playing this system, and if they prove they can't then they're a goner in the summer. Despite the doom and gloom there was definitely signs during the West Brom game that the players were picking up the system, Edwards needs the confidence to get far higher up the pitch, Clucas could arguably be replaced with Bauer who is at least at ease as an attacking fullback. Then there's Adam for Woods, Bojan for Ince and Afobe/Berahino for McClean potentially? The fans need to hold their nerve and give it time......

We now have a manager in place who has just left a team he created that will easily hold its place in the Championship when they get promoted. He's a damned good manager who has inherited three years of decline at a club that has been poorly run and players who don't have a clue how to play as a team. Hughes, Lambert, Rowett were unable to stop the rot and fans are expecting this bloke to cure all ills in a month? For goodness sake, get real and give the bloke a chance. I don't care how many mistakes he makes while he's trying because I do know that he won't turn this lot around unless he's given lots of time to do it. It's nigh on impossible.
The bloke has inherited a poisoned chalice and I don't envy him one bit.
Carry on NJ. I just hope, when things don't go according to plan, that your shoulders are broad enough to absorb the backlash from fans who have lost patience with everything about the club. I don't blame the fans. They've been loyal and turned up in numbers and those who actually brought about this demise want locking up for their negligence. They don't deserve the loyalty most fans have shown, even if they do have a tendency to moan a lot. But given the hand we've been dealt, who wouldn't moan at times ?

Perhaps the reason he let Campbell go on loan was that he felt he needed regular game time away from the toxic atmosphere at Stoke. Criticism of Campbell had already started from some of our wonderful fans after just three games - 'not good enough for this level'. Jones is learning very quickly that Stoke fans don't give time for things to develop.

Are these footballers really that thick or so brain dead they have to be hearded into patterns of play - they know where their goal is protect it - the opposition goal head for it - that effort on Saturday was pathetic I'm afraid - might as well just say to them - just go out thee and play football, pass when you need to, go on runs when you need to and bloody tackle when you need to - its not that difficult to adapt if you area professional - we all have to re-invent ourselves in day to day life and work at times.

Of course they need some time to work on new patterns of play and need some time to adapt...THEY HAVE HAD 5 GAMES! Sorry for the capitals but everyone really does need to calm the fuck down.

This job is too big for Jones. He hasn't really proved himself and doesn't seem to be able to motivate these players.if things carry on like they are I can see him walking.i know he has only been in charge for 6 games but things don't bode very well for the future. A mate of mine said the exact same thing on Saturday night the job is far to big for him & we should of gone for a more experienced man. I don,t see him walking though he is not the type to throw the towel in. I would give him time but how much is the question. spot on ... I know a coach at brighton fc , who knows him , he says the coaches at brighton think he is ... "A fantastic coach and an unknown manager "
I realise he was literally manager of luton town , but what they are saying is ... yes , he is a great coach and no he has none of the management experience of big sam / moyes et al

The only person who could have sorted out this lot is big Sam. As I said before Jones got the job. Forget the type of football he would have given us, he would have sorted the club out. That is what needs doing, & he is the only one with the stature in the game to do it. We should have offered him a short contract, say, until the end of the season, & then we should have taken time to get the right Manager in.
