Very tricky game but often these are the type that get the best out of us. I’m hoping NJ will revert back to 352 but think he’ll stick with 442 which I think could see us on the end of a hiding
442
.....................Butland................ Edwards...Batth.....Indi....Bauer ......................Woods................ .........Allen..................Etebo..... .......................Bojan................. ..............Vokes.........Afobe.......
352
.........................Butland................... .........Williams......Batth.....Indi......... Edwards.......Allen..Etebo...McClean ............................Bojan.................... ..................Vokes...........Afobe.........

WBA have an excellent side but they will no doubt be nervy with their whole promotion world hanging by a thread.
We should be able to play with the freedom that comes from having neither relegation worries nor promotion pressures. Play with a smile on our faces, just kick back and enjoy it, who knows, we may even dispatch these clowns.

Sort of game we will go and win IMHO - one of this leagues few positives - unlike the Prem, any team can beat any other on the day.....
Nathan is still learning who is and who isnt worthy of a starting place.....it will take the rest of the season...

Not a forward line you want to be facing when you are adjusting to a new system?!!. Gayle & Rodriguez.

Post by mcw on Feb 4, 2019 17:15:24 GMT
Not a front two to be facing full stop given the problems before we were adjusting to this new system either:(!
System or no system we are not going to be able to address the chronic number of errors that has crept into this team- if everyone is on their game and blocking spaces/gaps then we may have a chance, the problem comes when one piece of the jigsaw falls apart (somebody moving out of position or a being caught by a counter attack) then our lack of pace/physicality at the back means it is russian roulette time...

The day we chose Afoebe not Gayle was the end of our pronotion hopes He’s made us pay once already this season and no doubt will again.

We have to go full Leeds game again - 3 at the back and turn up the intensity.

Gayle would not have scored goals in this team. Hes a worse and more limited player than afobe.
Hes an out and out goalscorer who offers little else.

Are you saying that Afobe would thrive with a better service Dave?. I thought his control against Preston was nothing short of shocking. That said the control of a football is not our teams strongest attribute!!

Gayle is far, far superior to Afobe, faster, harder worker, more skilful and as you say ‘he’s an out and out goalscorer’, why on earth would we want one of those?

WBA could refuse to sell him unless they get Gayle etc, both teams get a striker from each other and you think Stoke were in the driving seat? Give your head a wobble lad.

That said the control of a football is not our teams strongest attribute!! Afobe was awful at hull. Hes shot to pieces as a player at the moment be how many chances has he actually missed? As a player he has far better pedigree than Gayle. Swap them around a d my point is we'd be saying "if only we had signed Afobe instead of gayle". In our premier league years Afobe caused us far more problems than Gayle ever did.

I disagree and I'm sure you know what I meant. Gayle relies on service even more than Afobe does. He wouldn't have got that here and his goals return would have been similar to Afobe's.

Here's a thought:
We (NJ & the club actually) need to take whatever it is that we're actually doing with players like Benny and Woods and just do the exact opposite.
So, instead of going from decent and sought after players before they arrived and becoming utterly useless almost overnight, they might actually get better.
(Not sure Clucas was ever any good before he rocked up, but the same process might help him also.)

Or in actuality blame no one. Unless we had a player to loan swap with Newcastle like Albion did it wasn't going to happen.

Sorry but your wrong Whatever the reasons, if we had preferred Gayle and then gone for Afobe or even been looking at both. Those are two very different types of striker and not interchangeable at all so at the very least it is clear there can’t have been a clear plan as to how we would play!

West Brom are beatable. Let’s not all wet our pants before the game’s even started..... I don’t think it’s pant wetting but realism. Let’s face facts the league table, form and confidence will have an impact and should we pull of a Leeds result it will be the exception rather than the rule. I’m not confident but hope you are right, and that we can cause an upset. Remember when we always used to beat WBA?!!

Doesn't mean it'll happen though. I'm definitely not confident.
