Having just come back from my first big Holiday in god knows how many years i want to try a cruise, maybe in August.
Unfortunately it is just me, as i have recently lost a few nearest & dearest etc, so i want to know what to go for?, thinking of All Inclusive.
Any travel/site/ship tips? please bear in mind it's just for me, i know i will have to pay more, but still.
Regards

me and the wife are going in may with royal caribbean to the med.there is a lot of pro and cons with it, for example drink packages are good if you say alcohol, its about £50 a day. so if you drink a lot its worth it.iglu online is the cheapest for cruises.

We’ve been 3 times with Tui Marella
All been all inclusive and drinks choice is good
Buffet restaurant can be a bit of a free for all but there’s 2 other a la carte places included and then a steak and Asian where it OST’s a bit extra
Rome isn’t a drama to do in your own. We used the train and got off at St Peters rather than Central as it saves time.

Having never really fancied going on a cruise, the missus talked me into trying one and i thought it was fucking ace. Been on 2 sofar both all inclusive with tui, one around the med and the other round the adriatic. The ship organised trips are expensive but you have the comfort of knowing the ship won't leave without you if you get stuck or delayed somewhere. Would recommend having an outside cabin but you pay more. Food / drink / entertainment on both was of a good standard. Fancy doing a caribbean one next year.

We always use P&O and they are excellent Prefer their excursions for same reasons as above. If berthing in a big city hop on hope off can be used and is great value, Last year booked two in NYC and Trump was in town and roads were gridlocked, waste of money as NYC is easy to navigate. Rome the previous year was different as you berth in Citalavechia (sp?) which is about 70 miles from Rome so wouldnt like to chance on our own but respect for ding dang doo !It very much depends on the port and your sense of adventure ! Something else worth considering is some ports are tenders and of all the cruising we have done out of 3 tendered ports we have lost 2 because of weather one of which was Monaco - poo ! We use the cafe as i dont like doing DJ business or getting dressed up but their are as already stated A la Carte restaraunts and P&O also have other restaraunts where you can pay a cover charge like Attar Kuchulls Indian Sindhu, but dont think he has an interest any more even though its still Sindhu As you go on more cruises you get more discount on cruise price and onboard purchases. We dont drink much but you can get discount on Wine packages not much but if you are gonna drink a lot then it pays On P&O we always buy a card for cheaper Costa`s Just ask or PM any other queries It took me a bit of adjusting to but i love it now and my wife adores them

Never been on a cruise in my life but have sailed many places.
The Key to your question is “In August”.
The Mediterranean is VERY HOT at this time of year, but has many very interesting ports of call. Far better in Spring , early summer, or Sept to October.
Skandanvia at this time could be good but trips ashore can be expensive.
An alternative could be a Caribbean Criuse in the winter via Fort Lauderdale or similar in Florida. Downside is is loads of Yanks who can be either charming or obnoxious. They will however love your accent and probably adopt you.! 🤪

Are you traveling solo? I have been on a few singles holidays and thinking of doing a cruise myself. Groups like friendship travel and solos are good for singles and you get to meet other singles too which can make or break your holiday lol.i think the majority of cruise ships have single cabins but they can get pricey. Good luck

It's nice because it's very small and compact compared to say London and you have lots of Ancient Rome and then the renaissance stuff . Everyone gets ripped off there though . ☹️

Must be like ants crawling over each other Not sure how true this is but, I heard that cruise companies were charging around £400 for a sightseeing day in Rome Due to the distance from the port I'd rather help myself to the buffet and bar while the ship is quiet

Yeah, we went to Rome in 2017 on a coach tour. It's got some great sights but you only get to scratch the surface with fleeting visits to St. Peter's square in front of the Vatican (queues to get in the Vatican were too long to allow us to see anything else), the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Piazza del Popolo, Castel Sant'Angelo etc etc - and it was all very, very busy with hordes of Chinese and Japs with bloody selfie sticks everywhere ! It's definitely somewhere we want to go back to and spend a bit more time as well. It's expensive as well but Florence was the most expensive city on our tour.

A lot of cruise ships visit Athens. It’s OK to leave from or disembark but believe me the City is a dump, so don’t be enticed by all the photographs of the Acropolis etc. The Islands are beautiful, I spend a lot of time there.

We regularly go to Kos (going again this September ), and have also been to Corfu, Crete, Santorini, and Rhodes. The only one we weren't too keen on was Crete as it was absolutely inundated with bloody Russians everywhere. Corfu appeared to be by far the poorest (and scruffiest) island compared to the others but it was still somewhere we want to go back to in future as there are some beautiful places.

Mrs Buzzb and I have done two with P&O. We were very undecided but having been pursuaded by family who had done a few we took the plunge, and got hooked! We did a 10 days from Southampton around the Canaries Lisbon and Maderia to start. Being new to us the first 3 days at sea were an adventure not a chore, exploring the Ventura and basically chilling out.Different entertainment every night, as late as you like, cinema, casino, bingo, big screen footy, entertainment on deck in the sun, with it being early September not alot of sprogs either. Foodwise as pointed out the buffets can get busy but the food was excellent, we took the freedom dining meaning we could turn up and get a table when we wanted to, if it was busy they give you a buzzer so just go to the bar and have a drink to wait, never longer than hhalf an hour or so. The quality of food is superb. We then left it for a few years before we cruised again, went on the Britannia around Spain and Italy, again it was superb. We did our own things at a few ports alondside a couple of tours to Pompei and Rome, they are abit of a whirlwind as you have to cram so much into a few hours. We are off to Florence for 4 days in September with a 7 day cruise around Italy with MSC tagged on. I can't recommend them highly enough if you want a relaxing all inclusive floating 5 star hotel then thats the way to go.

I am just back from a 37 day Cruise. I have decided that I am not old enough for all of this! How can anyone sleep all night, get up for breakfast, then sleep again? Then awake for Lunch at twelve. Then back to the sun bed - hang on - we have afternoon tea at 3:30 - this involves a full cream tea. Then back again ... It just goes on and on. Dress for dinner, a five course meal.
When we stop at ports, we have to wait for these overweight fat gimps to get of first!
When we get back to our ship we have to wait for these fat gimps to get on first!
No more Cruises for us until we are older. We had ten deaths on our last Cruise. - it would have been far cheaper for them to die at home.
It is a great way to see the world - you take your floating hotel with you. The problem is the shit that you share it with.
Obviously it is not compulsory that you eat all of the food - but there are people there that do - it is a sight that you would never wish to behold.
Maybe if we reach our eighty years of age ..... and become infirm?

I've done 3 cruises so far, 2 with Costa, 1 week eastern med from Venice (different port every day) 10 day western med from Barcelona. Last November did a Caribbean cruise from Miami on Norwegian Bliss, that ship is amazing, only 1 year old and a different style from other ships in that a lot of the restaurants and bars on 8 deck have outside seating areas as well, so I was sitting in the sun with a craft beer watching live premier and champions league football
This one doesn't do it full justice, especially 8 deck with it's outside bar and restaurant areas, but a ship with go karts and laser tag was something different

The public transport in Athens is excellent. We take the X92 bus from the airport to Piraeus and it is cheap as chips, whilst a taxi would be 50 euro or more. I actually like Piraeus itself. It is very buisy but have found some very good inexpensive eating places off the side streets. I would recommend cruising around the Greek Islands, that’s what I do,and Athens/Piraeus is a great place to embark and disembark from.
