Unsurprisingly he's starting for Luton tonight They've had 15 shots to Pompeys 1 in the first half, how many games did it take us to hit 15 shots.

Andy Griffin was right-footed but seemed to do better at left-back than on the right .... Griffin was a shit hot left back I remember being in the John Smiths stand sat next to a scout with a north eastern accent. I asked him who he was there watching Stoke or the away team (Wolves if memory serves me correctly and they were doing crap). He said the away team and I said there was only one player on this pitch worth watching, Griffin. He smiled at me knowingly and a week later, he was gone. When they announced he was off I was gutted and always wondered about the grey haired gentlemen with the smile and whether he was involved.

Are we still waiting for Villa (or anyone) to start the bidding process so that we can join in? I know the conspiracy theory had them initiating things on the assumption that they would then give us a clear run and we would let them have Bauer. Have also seen reports that Villa were enquiring about Ben Gibson at Burnley.
Anyone have any clearer view of what the latest rumour is - or isn't?
Always room for a sneaky deal amongst all the straightforward ones.

And messed with his gingangoolies? I was just surprised a football scout would announce he was a scout to a complete stranger! He had an accent that had no bearing on the game and I'm basically a nosey bastard. Had some good discussion with him about the game, scouting in general, how it worked, how often was he on the road, that kind of thing. What a job that is watching football for a living.

- and scored some cracking goals too! Those who only remember him from our first season in the Prem (when he had lost a lot of his pace) probably don't appreciate was a good left-back he was. The goal in the fog that night against Coventry was it? Was an absolute banger. Scored a belter at Huddersfield...he was quality.

Isn’t it though for us to go in another bid has to be accepted?

That would imply they'd had a bid accepted but it was talks with the player which broke down. Presumably that means we could now match their bid and hold talks with him as well if we wanted?

Article suggests they're just not interested in selling to anyone this window. www.footballinsider247.com/villa-justin-bid-collapses/Championship duo Villa and Stoke City have made enquiries about signing Justin before Thursday night’s transfer deadline. But sources at both clubs have told Football Insider that Luton have rejected their overtures and the player is to be happy to stay at Luton following talks.

Doesn't sound like they're missing Jones! It is the sign of s good manager when the high standards he created remain long after he has left. The TP effect took three years to fade at SCFC. Not to start this again, but the TP effect 'fading' was characterised by huge improvement in the first Hughes season, then gradual improvement til 2016. Not really TP fading is it.

Gets a mention in the Mirror, but who knows if it's still a possibility? www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-live-deadline-day-13923869BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA Villa and Stoke to go head-to-head for Luton full-backCould be a busy day ahead at Aston Villa. Tyrone Mings due to be the first through the door on loan from Bournemouth. They are also after a holding midfielder and keen on either Watford’s Nathaniel Chalobah or Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden. The arrival at Newcastle of Andreas Samaris from Benfica would free up Hayden to leave. Villa are also want Luton’s impressive and versatile full back James Justin. Stoke like Justin too and are now managed by his former Luton boss Nathan Jones which could give the Potters an advantage.

Really hope Villa do us a favour, even if it does mean Bauer goes Villa.
