Wow a lot of negativity here for a player that cost 3 million pound, is better and younger than shawcross and will probably be our captain next season its a good no risk sensible signing for me

now that he as signed for us I can see pulis making a bid for shawcross. He wouldn't get in the Boro team to be fair. We should never have given him that new contract I felt at the time and looking and looking a bigger mistake as the weeks go by. Was a rumour Rafa wanted him and if true we should have snapped their hands off

I think Jones will play him on his own at the back at the weekend just prove how crap our back two are

I can remember Ryan being a legend in so many games. He was always just "there" - magnificent and terrifying. I wonder what must be going through his head
It was the Monaco friendly, bizarrely, at the start of last season that I thought, "oh dear". He was about 4-5ft away from a guy in the box he should have been marking and it was like a 50 year old dad in the park! For me, he's an absolute legend - for what he has achieved and for how he played!. Its hard to watch when you see a legend struggle on - Alex Higgins, Botham, Tyson et al. Perhaps Andy Murray had the right idea.

I don't know why but sometimes I'm on disbelief on this board. Comments already talking about him becoming new captain are utterly insane. We've ripped out enough soul of the club this last 18 months without putting a dagger through the heart.

Welcome to Stoke Danny. Hopefully he can first and foremost defend well, but if he can chip in with a few up the other end like he looks to have done with Wolves then that'll be a right treat!

Welcome Danny. Please do not fall for the bullshit and laziness that most of the squad currently has. Bunch of wankers.

Give it your all Danny & show a bit of something that has seldom been seen in our defence so far this season.... ....oh and after all the last defender whose name end in "th" didn't turn out to be a bad purchase did he? Would that be Wimmerth or Williamth?

Of the ' worst defence in Europe ' fame, shawcross bmi pieters and Edwards are still here
You don't need to tinker with the worst defence in Europe, you need to take an axe to it
I amazed rowett didn't do that and hopefully this means Nathan Jones will
I actually don't think pieters is a bad defender, but that's another story for another day
We need Batth and another minimum. Just get on with it stoke. Less chat more action

Not sure if anyone's made this historic analogy already, but I remember once upon a time all of us fans being up in arms against Lou Macari's first signing, because... 1) We had purchased a centre back, when we were already well-stocked with centre backs, and it was plain to see it was scoring goals that was our problem, not defending. 2) The new signing was only playing for Birmingham Reserves, so if he wasn't good enough for them, he clearly wouldn't be good enough for us either. 3) The new player was 29 years old, meaning he had no prospect of getting any better either. So we had basically wasted £55000, which back then was pretty much most of our already non-existent transfer kitty. Except that as we now know, that player was Super Vince Overson who went on to be our Captain Fantastic, Division 2 title winner and an Autoglass Trophy winner to boot! I'm hoping Danny Batth can be cut from the same cloth!

Jones has made a big point about players having the right character - and this lad seems to have that. I'm not expecting the most cultured centre back we've ever had - but if he's part of a fundamental change in attitude I'm in.
