Can we discuss our midfield for once???
The problem always seems to be identified as defence and attack.....but we lost virtually everything in midfield today, not for the first time, and the amount of space they had was beggars belief.
As someone said Gallagher was waltzing around like Zidane in a pre-season friendly. Not good enough!!!

It's not good enough, like the other areas you mention. I think we need a proper playmaker and a Capoue type as well. Ours are too lightweight.

We have 0 physical presence in the middle, been bullied in that position week after week, this week it was by Pearson (the diving twat.) Sam Clucas is a million miles away from being strong enough to dominate at the bottom of the diamond. He was completely anonymous today.

All our central midfielders are alike, the exception being Adam. They are workmen, runners, they don't have a lot of actual skill or vision hence we create naff all. We may have to resort to 'wingers' in the short term,Ince and McClean and possibly a no.10 off a single striker.....in effect the way Rowett was playing

The only one we need is Etebo.
If we’re going 442 in a diamond we need a decent sitter maybe Allen and then Adam or Bojan at the point.
It won’t work though till we sort our woeful defence out.

Out of all the touches etebo had, it took until into the second half before he actually passed the ball. I like his energy and drive with the ball, but he's like the kid on the playground that will not pass.

Our midfield is Charlie Adam. Today proved that. And what a sad sentence that is. A player that a couple of weeks ago most wanted fucked off, and now he's our saviour. Shocking.

I like his energy and drive with the ball, but he's like the kid on the playground that will not pass. Bit unfair , if we are picking him out as the worst today, did play a few decent passes today, the problem for me is that the midfield don't work together , there's no interplay unless you count the passing back to the defence. Preston are a run of the mill Championship side but the played together. Without Charlie we are as predictable as night and day.

It has been a massive issue all season. Persisting with a midfield 3 of a combination of Allen/Clucas/Etebo/Woods/Sorensen has failed us over and over again. It's completely unbalanced; no true creative players, no true defensive players.
We saw the difference that a past-it Charlie Adam made last week. An attack minded midfielder who can play a decent pass completely changed the dynamic of the midfield.

I said it took until into the second half before he attempted to pass the ball to a teammate. He was holding on to the ball way too long again. Second half he started to play one touch!! Must have had a bollocking at half time.

When you've reached the 'Joe Allen playing at the tip of the diamond' phase of the squad assessment, you know things are going a bit mental.
Again.

Etebo would be class in a proper midfield. The rest are shite.
Exception. Goodness knows what we have done to Woods as he was a cracking player
Well done Stoke

I can’t wait for the day Joe Allen leaves this football club. He’ll be another Whelan who got stick everyday of the week on here until he left, and whoosh we’ve never replaced him. On todays performance I wish I could have counted the number of runs he made across the whole width of the pitch to create space and receive a ball that never came, and that’s in addition to trying to break up opposition play. I just wish at times people would see what goes on “off the ball” as part of performance. That may be asking to much!!
