We have to sort out the defence. We ain’t going to progress without a virtually new back four.

We simply don’t have enough decent defenders at the club. If I could asses them I’d go with
Bauer - looked great last season then binned after 2 games this season. Good going forwards but limited defensively.
Edwards - seems to be going backwards. Time to improve though.
Shawcross - great servant but has become a huge liability. No pace, poor technically. Needs to be dropped.
Williams - better than Shawcross but not much.
Indi - been messed around too much. Not a LB. our best CB and should start when fit.
Pieters - I like him but he has his limitations going forwards.
We need at least 2 in. 1 if not 2 CBs and a LB.
Our best current back 4 available is
Bauer Williams Indi Pieters

Its the back 6 surely
The 4 defenders are static, ponderous and slow
But the two in front of them (Allen and Woods) play themselves into trouble constantly, poor passes, risky dribbles, awful control, and put pressure back on us when we attack.
Its painful to watch.

Make it 7 as Butland is Wank and just a showpony to try and ‘Look’ the part for England.
Complete shambles.

Its painful to watch. Won’t disagree with that though any decent defence only really needs 1 CM protecting them or else you end up with more Rowettball. We desperately need a powerhouse DM bringing in.

The back four is a problem , central midfield for me is worse but the Problem starts and started in the boardroom structure and those paid to impelment the plan they set this course three or four years ago and remain insulated from its impact

Shawcross on the third goal today.... words fail me. If jones is as thorough as he says he is that should be out the team straight away, that was beyond pathetic and weak and a bloke that is finished.

The back 5 for me. Butland is shit, he’s got to go. His heart isn’t in it. I can’t see him throwing any more tantrums when he lets one in.
Time to go Jack.
What price for Jack these days, by the way? We’re notoriously shit at selling players. I’d be amazed if we got £10m at this rate.

Very sad because the bloke is a legend.

The problem starts up front. Teams can swarm all over us because we offer absolutely nothing in our opponents half of the pitch.
Get Berahino gone this week and use whatever is recouped on someone who will at least keep the opposition back 4 on their toes.

Exactly - we are terrible going forward partly because we have to overload the defence to compensate for the defenders being crap. And we are crap defensively partly because we're constantly under pressure due to the fact we offer no threat up front. Meanwhile our midfield plays too defensively to offer any help to the forwards, yet somehow also fails to protect the defence. And the goalie craps himself every time he has to deal with a cross, set piece or back pass. Great isn't it.

Shawcross on the third goal today.... words fail me. Spot on there it was dog n duck defending Having read the comments on here I was expecting to see an almighty fcuk up from Shawcross. What I saw was not that bad. It could have been better but it was not an example of the dire defending that is being described on here. Playing devil's advocate. Shawcross tackled with his right foot for several reasons. If he missed the tackle then he could quickly recover. Making(missing)the tackle with his left foot may have left him on his arse. Tackling with his left foot would have left him off balance and likely caused a foul as his right leg followed through. His intention was to make the tackle and if not then at least to knock the player out of his stride to allow our covering defender to clean up. His weight distribution was such (on his left foot) that he had no choice but to use his right foot to try and make the tackle. All four of the above could have played some part in his decision making. I don't buy the argument that he is lazy and can't be arsed or that this is a good example of how crap he is. His best days may well be behind him but he is still as good as the other 2 options we have in Williams and Indi. If we get a quick CB then I assume the better ball playing CB of the original three will be 1st team choice. Of the three, I would struggle to say which one is the most competent with the ball at his feet. I could of course be wrong. I don't know what NJ looks for in his CB's. He may prefer two quick CB's...in which case we're knackered (for this season at least).

After seeing that shit show from our defence yesterday I'd play Tymon (until we can get an pacey, strong left full back in) souttar and indi (until we can get a pacey strong centre half) as centre halves and Bauer at right back. Shawcross is finished and has been for a while I'd get rid along with cancelling Martina and Williams loan deals.

Those draws we got were an achievement.

Bloody hell just seen the highlights for the first time.
We got absolutely battered didn’t we?
All the goals were a shambles defensively accompanied by decent Brentford attacking play.
NJ certainly has his work cut out. What a mess.

Get Berahino gone this week and use whatever is recouped on someone who will at least keep the opposition back 4 on their toes. That is largely the defences problem. Compare us to Brentford yesterday, when they won the ball back their defenders were on the half way line almost instantly. Our defence is the reason that the whole team plays 30 yards further back than it should.

But the midfield doesn't protect!

We have to sort out the defence. We ain’t going to progress without a virtually new back four. ...and in the system Jones wants to play they won't get just as much protection from midfield, which means they must be able to play man against man. Not many of our defenders have the pace to do this.

The back four is as mobile as a pissed up sloth and you could say the same about the rest of the squad. We need fresh younger legs, fresh mentality who aren't frightened to run up the pitch.
