Martina & Williams would have been going back end of season, I'd have imagined GR & scfc would have made defence a priority in the summer if you throw in Shawcross' situation as well. No doubt we would have concentrated heavily on defence in the summer with GR, but he also brought woods, ince & Afobe by choice. It was a big rebuild job and we give rowett the chance to do just half of it before giving him the boot. Proper counter productive imo. Rowett quickly realised our defence would struggle and we have protected it for half a season, NJ might realise he needs too aswell. I believe rowett would have cracked it in the summer but even so I also think NJ will have us playing some decent stuff in time but half the squad is not up to playing how he wants too atm. Back to square one. Our recruitment policy (including the input of our manager) should have been based on a minimum two year plan. Players retained/ purchased should have been good enough (1) to push for promotion and as a minimum (2) been of a standard to retain Premiership status if promoted. By all means consider our first team squad (not on paper, in reality) and comment on (1) their potential for promotion and more importantly their ability to sustain (in the short term) EPL status. If you believe Shawcross, Williams, Indi, Woods, Ince, McLean, Clucas, Crouch, Berahino “as examples“ would deliver a minimum two year plan, fair enough. My opinion differs I believe with the exception of two of those players the others are good team/squad players for a 2 year plan. Don't forget at the start of the season we had the hangover effect, we then went on a 10 unbeaten run.. yes i believe following another summer following this January then next season we would have been in good condition for a good season. I'm sure NJ will benefit from the summer window too but we're back to square 1 because the players Rowett purchased are not his so in theory Rowett should be on stage 2 of the rebuild in the summer, NJ might not fancy the players GR purchased meaning he's at stage 1

Jones needs to build a squad of championship players that earn promotion like we were in 2008, not ex premiership players who do not have the motivation as they are picking up prem wages.
The passion and hunger comes from those who have never raised the prem before not those who took it for granted. Look at huddersfield now how that desire and passion has fell away

Stage 2 of the rebuild would have been complete.. that's when it's fair to 'expect' imo. Next season I'd have expected top 4, if not better

No no no hang on a minute, we've got to get there first.. then you make signings, how many of our 2008 team would you have said were premiership players before we were promoted? Championship clubs don't tend to purchase premier league quality players?

Further still, if any allready here were good enough for the premiership following relegation the vultures would have taken them

Upon promotion you add further quality to the group

That was a spineless performance. I can't think of one worse. So used to it I couldn't even get upset.

This just gets better and better! Which post deleted? You clearly saw it to quote it, and its still on page 29. Best of all, you say your 1st Stoke away match was 1970, so you have (at least) been around during the period 2008 - 2015 then. In which case, it would have been impossible to not know the impact Shawcross had during that time - ask anyone on here! Go on ask for a vote on Shawcross' contribution! Clearly, you must have lived on planet Zog, or spent a long-term visit to the Telletubbies otherwise. Keep digging that hole sunshine. Where is the your post in which you said I had joined the oatcake in November 18. ?? Ask for a vote on a general football forum about Shawcross you would be laugh at and ripped apart. Off you go Mrs Shawcross ?? Dear, oh dear. Look at page 28, the post by adi. I have never said you joined in 2018! Do keep up sunshine.

Mr Jones has one hell of a task. We were comprehensively outplayed yesterday and given a footballing lesson in movement and passing. We did not seem to be able to create shooting or goal scoring opportunities. The goal we scored was because of a poor clearance by Brentford. We don't seem to know how to fill in the spaces and Brentford passed the ball through us at will. They were superior all over the pitch! I hope Mr Jones is given time to sort this mess out.

That third goal by Brentford showed us up. They just cut through a static defence. Amazed it wasn't 6 or 7 the way we played

I was at Saturday's match and I think it's unfair that the FA make us play teams that can pass to each other, run into space, mark the opposition, know which way they are playing and kick the ball into the goal. The cheating bastards must have been practicing all that. Worst burgers I've ever had. I noticed someone on the lower tier chucked one on the pitch and not one of our team took a bite. There was fighting amongst the Stoke fans, not sure but I think it was about who was the worst Stoke player on the pitch. Leeds next Saturday, at least I'll get a decent bacon bap to watch us get stuffed.

Because he isn't currently good enough. They are arguing about the fact he said Shawcross has NEVER been good enough. Which is a load of horse manure.
