I need a nice restaurant. In the old days there was the Old Beams at Waterhouses, Hayden House in Basford was decent and further afield Marielles in Market Drayton was pretty good.
Someone has mentioned a couple over in Leek. The Peak Weavers Hotel and The Street Restaurant and Grill.
Any other recommends?

Leek has some really excellent restaurants for such a small town.
So Thai - Thai obviously. Maazi and Pabna - Indian restaurants. Mulberry Leaves - Pub
All excellent food, but my favourite would be Primo Piano - Italian restaurant. Been going there for more than 20 years. Always a fantastic meal and lovely owners (I genuinely aren’t related or know them personally).
Avoid the Laurel Inn - Chinese restaurant. Got taken over a year or two ago and has gone badly downhill - check out the tripadvisor reviews.

I know it's decent but one of the kids used to work in a sister operation so they've used it with the staff discount card over the years. Great level of service at their places.

I thought it looked fantastic with an array of decent hostelries and a cracking ambience

Great level of service at their places. i think it depends how far you want to travel snd type of food. I like Gusto in Knutsford but not Alderley Edge. A good Italian in Chester, Frattoria. The Yellow Broom in Holmes Chapel is a bit different. Stanneylands hotel is brilliant. My favourite. An excellent Indian is the Passage to India Crewe. Sandbach has an excellent Thai, the Orient....and a Greek restaurant I have not tried but has good reviews. Heyhurst Arms, Bostock Green, same chain as the Architect in Chester both good....same chain as Brunnington ( as is Old Hall , Sandbach Plough at Little Eaton. ( Hungs Chinese in Soho is very good)

Stafford Arms Bagnall is v. nice at the moment.
That Baby Russets place in Stoke is highly rated, a bit exclusive because you need to book a decade in advance.
Ryles Arms in Danebridge {and The Ship, Wincle} are a little different.
Jervis Arms is ok, and Butchers Reapsmoor.
My fave is The Rock under the Roaches.
The old Moss Rose on the Buxton Road, now a family Italian is good.
Loads and loads to go at in and around Leek...

Cheshire grill in lach Dennis Chetwode Arms, lower Whitley George and Dragon in Great Budworth Bombay Quay in Northwich, next to Waitrose and overlooking the river, next to a good little new pub, when I nipped in for a quick drink before going into the Quay, Alan Mcinally was sat in there.
Hayhurst arms in bostock green, pub & restaurant allows you to take a dog in, if you are taking a dog ...

Many a pub has closed since then, but it still has a healthy number of pubs of varying quality.

Forgot Lazy Trout, Three Hoss Shoes, Red Lion at Thorncliffe good good for steaks. Shotton's pub in Chedd, Black Lion, quirky, not really posh, good grub apparently, I've only ever had a pork pie.

The kids would kill me if I suggested Crewe

I've been to The Lazy Trout a few times in the last year can't bring myself to visit The Three Horse Shoes.
Talking of Thorncliffe The Mermaid was shit hot back in the day
Edit: I walked past the Black Lion twice yesterday once on the way out and then on the way back as the light was failing. It looked as inviting as any pub I can remember, it's an absolute gem and the pork, apple and stuffing bap after 8 or so miles in fabulous countryside is as good as it gets

Three Horse Shoes food is mint. I know the chef. Yeah The Mermaid was my favourite sunday drive pop and crisps pub. And you can see it from me folks' house. I love the Black Lion, manager's a stout fan, suits me. Another though, Castro's in Denford is different, havn't been mesen for years but still hear good reports.

Needed a restaurant around Stone area this lunchtime, one of the kids heading down to Brum for a few days. Couldn't go to Granvilles or The Spotgate, both closed Monday lunchtimes so we went to The Fitzherbert Arms at Swynnerton. Really tastefully done up inside, great food but really slow and unfriendly service apart from the woman who looked to be the manager.
Owned by the same people who run the Old School House at Cholmondeley which is excellent in every aspect.

I was in The Glebe last night I've never had anything to eat in there. Is it anything to do with the fact that they leave free food out on the bar I wonder?

If I was eating out in Stoke, I’d be going Indian all the way. You have V good curry houses in Stoke. We have loads of fine dining, but no decent Indians. Just choose something off the menu you don’t usually have or ask them to give you what they have.
