His show was all right until the bit at the end when he said " And this is me" then he sang a song badly. That was wank.
The rest was pretty good though.

I thought he was properly sh*te Joe,he had one half decent impression in his repertoire (Prince Charles,) but fair play to the guy for forging the career longevity he did from it,the rest just sounded like, well,Mike Yarwood....

The worst impressionist in history. Every one sounded the same but with different facial expressions. A complete charlatan.

Why has a seemingly random thread about Mike Yarwood suddenly appeared? Am I missing something?

I thought he was bloody awful - lousy impressions, couldn't tell jokes and couldn't sing when he was "himself".
Yet for some reason he was popular enough to have his own show on TV.

To be fair Joe, Freddie wasn’t an impressionist, he just did some tongue in cheek impressions in his acts.

So did Dick Emery. I never knew who any of his impressions were supposed to be! They were awful, but I liked them!

He was fucking legless, then again, so was I, then again, I didn't have a show to do that night, then again, I did make a bit of a show of myself later!! What a great day Live Aid was!

What about Phil Cool, he was a bit crap, only ever seemed to do a gremlin or a pigeon. I see Phil Cool as a rubbery faced precursor to Lee Evans,in the pantheon of rubbery faced 'comedians' at least! whether that's any sort of endorsement or not I don't know, but as a kid I thought his Rolf Harris was mint (probably shite if I were to watch it now.) Les Dennis was another with a wide ranging impression portfolio of one (Mavis from Corrie.) Loved the episode of 'Extras' with him tho'

Phil might have made me smirk once, maybe.

I don't see a lot of the idiot box so I don't know what the current state of variety is. I suppose it's becoming difficult to impersonate, lampoon, parody or satirize politicians and 'personalities' when Spitting Image has become reality.
Folk just take off pop stars and groups now instead perhaps..

Good at Brucie, Denis "silly billy" Healey, Jim "I'll put it quite bluntly" Callaghan.

Eddie Waring, Jimmy Saville, Brian Clough, Larry Grayson, Harold Wilson, Eric Morecambe they were some of his staple impersonations as I recall.
I thought he was good at the time but looking back on YouTube now it all looks very pedestrian.
I suppose it's like trying to compare football teams across eras, you shouldn't really do it, you can only be the best in your time, the world marches on.

Good at Brucie, Denis "silly billy" Healey, Imagine a prime time BBC1 impressionist doing Phillip Hammond now and it resonating to 15M people? This is not a party political point at all more about how society has changed and how modern day politicians are pygmies compared to their predecessors.

This is not a party political point at all more about how society has changed and how modern day politicians are pygmies compared to their predecessors. You make a good point. The whole nation knew Dennis Healey, conversely 95% of people today would not recognise Philip Hammond if he stood up in their soup!
