Gutted we dropped 2 points today. We have to start winning games. Ok a point isn’t bad but on the balance of play villa were there for the taking.

If you think their reactions are odd you clearly haven’t spent much time around Villa fans. They’re up there with West Ham and Newcastle fans on the deluded scale. We had almost twice as many attempts on goal as Villa but apparently we went there to spoil the game and take a point. Listening to Dean Smth’s interview and all his excuses after the game, you can tell he’s a Villa fan.

He said Joe Allen was far and away best player on the pitch. He must of missed McClean who is quite honestly a crap footballer technically but he's a hard charging warhorse. He was easily motm and our best player on the day. I detract from seeing him in the lineup each week and would be first to admit it when he's shit but you're on something if you didn't see him literally buckle up and carry us into attack today. God honest truth.

Great effort. Nobody to fear at this level, but we have to strengthen that defence considerably in the window if we have any aspirations above mid-table. Defensively we have been going downhill from the moment we gave Huth away and did not think he was worth replacing with somebody viable. We have not brought a decent defender for what feels like years now(heck we don't buy defenders full stop), culminating in our centre-forward starting at right-back last year. We have a team playing with great spirit(and a bit of quality) and in my opinion, Rowett has performed a miracle to get a squad of players together to compete at this level, given he inherited a club rotten to the core. We could have easily done a Sunderland this season, but for a great turnaround. Couple of defenders and we could sneak into those play-offs which would be an incredible achievement from Rowett. Will Rowett/Stoke buy any defenders in this window or the next - highly unlikely in my opinion, but I think this will be more due to Coates/Transfer team than the wishes of our manager I disagree. Rowett has on more than 1 occassion had a go at the defense this season for letting us down and we are still giving late sloppy goals away. We are a young CB, 2 decent wingers (left side and cover for Ince) and a striker away from turning draws into wins and pushing on in the second half of the season. If its any we wont go and get it will be a striker Diouf, Crouch, Bera, Afobe all fighting for 1 position so unless Dioufy or Crouchy go its unlikely we will get another in. Agree with all that, but what about cover/competition for Pieters, do we have a viable right-back? In this division we need to be working off the premise that if we score a goal we get a result and if we score first we go on to convert that into a win 99% of the time - we are not a free-scoring team like Norwich/WBA, but we are scoring and if we therefore bolster up the defence we could sneak into a play-off spot. I also think we are improving in front of goal and will get better as the team gels, defensively we don't have the talent to stop the number of goals we are leaking or get any better than we already are

We remain closer to relegation than promotion, so for all the trumpeting about ten games unbeaten or whatever, the fact remains - we're not good good enough.
Mid table mediocrity in the second tier is what we are - back where we belong sadly, and this is how it will be for many years because it suits the owners. It's cheaper to run the club down here.

Well played. Need another forward to nick games like that and others.
Could do with an inspired January loan and for him to come off. (e.g. Okazaki, Calwert Lewin, Origi, Wickham, Vydra)

Hard to take, particularly in the freezing cold. Has Aston been moved to Antarctica? Not quite as bad as fucking up at Reading. We were the better team by miles in both, which is encouraging, but managed just two points, which isn't. Sort this defence out and we could be alright. But I've been saying that for around three years.

That’s just untrue though, we’re 5 points of the play offs and last time I checked that was a route to promotion.....

When a team has a poor start, it will inevitably have progress through the middle order before reaching a potential launch pad, i.e. top 6-8. Over the last 10 games we have the 10th best results, 4 points behind the 4th best. We have 24 games left. No one other than a fool, would discount us from having the capability to progress further. Implying that we are at risk of relegation, or a struggle to stay up, is nothing better than sad negativity.

I thought we were more than decent today. Joe Allen had his best game for two years, he was everywhere, good first touch, spinning his man and good passing. Woods wasn't at his best again but him Joe and Clucas are starting to bail each other out when needed which is a good sign. McClean was top notch too, better when switched to the right actually, he has the nous to drive on into the box where if they touch you its bingo! Bera was not as good as he has been but all in all going to a team that is well fancied and nicking their turf so to speak is a good sign. Believe Stokies, build it and they will come.

We did play well and we didn't draw because we sat back. We took the game to them from beginning to end and should have won.
Frustrating as it was yesterday, in the cold light of day, that feels like a big step forward to me.
Positive performances are better than negative dross. More of yesterday will see us in the right direction. Regardless of result that was more enjoyable and promising than showings at likes of Bristol city and Sheffield utd
A good Christmas and we will be right in the mix.

Did their manager really come out and say we raised our game because Villa are a "big club"... HAHAHAHA I found it hilarious! Little ol’ Stoke raising their levels because of the stature of his club and the occasion of playing at Villa Park. He must have forgotten we’ve been regularly playing (and picking up good points) there for a little while now.

While we still have some deficiencies in our squad, our midfields pretty good isn’t it? Allen, Woods, and Clucas (or Etebo) have to be one of the best trios in the league I would have thought?

Villa looked wank for the majority and I'm still not having Tammy Abraham as a footballer, he's useless when he's played against us anyway.

Fine, we can all pretend it's all ok and everything's fine and dandy.
Me, I prefer to see that we squandered our premiership status due to ineptitude and arrogance at the top levels of the club, and that I fail to observe that anything meaningful has changed.
We remain in danger of relegation because we simply aren't good enough. Unbeaten in ten is absolutely no use if you win virtually none of those. Worse still if prior to that run you received thrashing after thrashing.
Hughes used to bleat about being unbeaten in x games last season, where did that get us? Relegated, that's where, and it's because not enough of those unbeaten games were victories.
But hey, it's all fine and we are going up apparently, so what's to worry about.

It’s highly highly unlikely we’ll get relegated, not sure what you’ve seen to suggest we are relegation material? I still don’t think we’ll get to the playoffs but relegation, nah, you’re back to being a drama queen 🤣

I listened to it and saw the goals on TV, and it seemed a very decent performance. Would've taken a draw before the game.
