Parkway Drive were really decent The Euro circuit is mainly the same bands at Download, Hellfest (Fr), Graspop (Bel), Wacken (Ger - always looks ace!), Rock Im Park (Ger) I nearly did Bloodstock in Derbyshire this year (Aug) to see Megadeth, Sepultura and one of my teens faves Helloween - much cheaper than Download to camp all weekend (and £70 day tickets) but does seem to cater for more black metal types. Helloween pulled out so I was glad I didnt go! Good call! Parkway Drive blew my socks off at Aftershock, the crowd energy as Wild Eyes started up was in the stratosphere. Biggest live show surprise since Avatar. My fiancée missed out because the organisers fucked up & put Sleep Token at the same time. It's a similar problem picking festivals...

Jah Wobble tonight at the foxlowe in leek Great little venue Wobble as charismatic as ever. Played the metal box album in dub. Started a bit slow but once up to speed it was a great little gig. They were on for around 2 hours with no break. Probably 60 people there. Great stuff. Was there too Excellent musicianship For an older man Wobble still very much on point

Bit of a groundhog day gig but went to Bad Manners supported by Max Splodge in Wolves at the Steel Mill last night , very good, sound was great and Max did his usual mix of covers plus 2 Pints backed by Bad Manners musos followed by Buster and co doing a predictable if very entertaining set. I can entirely see the logic of the greatest hits set on their annual Xmas megatour but would actually be nice to see a bit more variety. That said, the vast majority would have been there for what they did so all good, Buster looked in decent shape ( he'll be dead by next Xmas now I've said that) and the band are top notch so a great night - bar the flooding buggering up drive home a bit. If I'm right, they'll be announcing next year's Xmas tour soon and frankly for £20 upfront I shall be there again and posting the same review again.
Not loads booked next year at this stage , Stranglers in March for their a little spurious 50th anniversary tour, Steve Hackett in October as I love my early Genesis, StoneDead fest in August cos it's just a cracking rock fest weekend and 36DD Daz buys all the beers ( er 🙄😄) and taking kids to see the mighty Taylor Swift in June too, and actually can't wait for that one, huge artist and will be intrigued to see the show.
This year has been a stormer for gigs, Maiden,Death Cult, Geddy Lee,Roger Waters etc so roll on next year . Happy new year all!

Looking for honeymoon plans next year and fuck me it's hard to pick the festival. I think we're gonna do Hellfest in France, it's got the best variety and Dark Tranquillity. But Resurrection and Tuska are the same weekend. Sigh.

Weekend tickets sold out though.

A minor blessing in having venues limke the Underground,Eleven and the Sugarmill in Stoke, there's usually something going on locally that'll be worth turning up to.

Back already, no support, 50 odd minute gig and all the hits and most of the new album. Some people were a bit miffed it didn't go on longer but thems the breaks when all your songs are 3 minutes long. Suited me fine. Great gig.

Thought it might have been a bit under attended as a lot of these things aren't well advertised but it was pretty much full, 1500+ people I think.

A future gig but I'll put on here nonetheless, for the more metallic among us I've just seen a 3- band thrash tour announced for November of Anthrax Testament and Kreator with shows at Manc Apollo and Wolves Civic. No idea of the price but on sale Friday and I shall be doing Wolves if can get a ticket

Soulwax at New Century, Manchester.
Good but not great, probably the least favourite of the 7 or so times I've seen em. Still a solid 7/10

Depeche Mode for the first time in 23 years - by far the longest time I've gone between seeing a band. I felt like the sound needed more oomph with a guitar or bass guitar, but who's going to tell Depeche Mode what to do?! The set started really well, had a bit of a lull, then livened up with some classics towards the end. Ghosts Again from the new album was a highlight though.

Ghosts again is a brilliant comeback single. The boys never cease to amaze. Saw them in 2019 and had the same experience. Great start, bit flat in the middle, cracking last few classic songs

I got Mrs & her friend on the Depeche Modes guest list when they played in Manchester last Monday. I have never seen them and then on the day itself, I started to get jealous that I was not going but she totally loved the gig

My first gig of the year was Simple plan, States Champs and Mayday Parade.
Was super bowl night in Birmingham in the academy still a decent venue.
The bands were great an all.
Missed out on Blink 182 and Slipknot tickets for this year. Could have gone Bowling for soup and Less than Jake but would have needed more holiday from work.
May consider the Sunday at Download an all!

Went to see folk/rock band Morganway at the East Riding theatre in Beverly on Sunday night. Love the adventure of travelling to new venues not really knowing what to expect.

I'm decrepit enough to have seen Jethro Tull live in the 1970s, so a few years ago I was delighted to discover Wolf People, who sounded more like JT than Tull themselves. I never got to see Wolf People, but last night their principal member Jack Sharp brought psychedelic electric folk to the Foxlowe, with his new band Large Plants. Some remarkably original material and some dazzling twin guitars were enjoyed by a typically appreciative Leek crowd. Great to see such superb musicianship in a little venue, the band seemed genuinely delighted by the gig and their reception, and said they'd be back.

I watched Editors in Liverpool on Wednesday night. The 3rd time that I have seen them in 12 months. They are such an underrated band in the UK. One of the bets live bands around

I saw the Steve Ignorant Band performing Crass classics at The Cavern Club yesterday. He’s put a good young band together, especially keyboard/vocalist Carol Hodge, who has an amazing vocal range. All in all it was a great gig for a sold out crowd of mainly old punks. Anarchy at the home of The Beatles. Who’d have thunk it 🤣
