I keep reading "been out best player" or "is our best striker". I even saw one poster say he was our player of the season.
Forgive me for not buying into this. Granted he has looked more like a footballer this season than he's done before but he's being judged against incredibly low standards and his bar for acceptance seems a hell of a lot lower than everyone else's.
He's scored 2 goals and missed a hateful of sitters including a last minute penalty. The goals he scored, any one of us could have managed to tuck away.
Sorry. I'm not getting the berahino love in right now.

One of the main reasons I would have him in over the other strikers is on how well he runs the line
You don't see him getting caught offside as much as Diouff Crouch or Afobe
He has some catching up to do for me but he has the scope I don't think the others have

All his Stoke goals have been tap ins,for me I think that's what good strikers do,last tap in merchant we had was Thorne. More tap ins please. I agree some of the praise is OTT but your stance seems too far the other way to me. He's been one of our better players for sure, against everyone's expectations.Yes he needs to do better still but let's recognise a good news story for once.

Put it this way he's been the best of our so called strikers so far this season. I'd give him a run of games as number 10 behind Afobe. He's played there twice this season if my memory is right. The first time (against Wigan I think) it worked really well - Berahino brought Afobe into play with some lovely passes. The second time (can't remember who against) it didn't work - Bojan was far too deep and didn't link up at all. I think it's well worth giving it a go with a midfield of Clucas, Allen, Woods and Etebo as an alternative to a front 3. I'd like to see Clucas on the left

If he should start scoring goals and a big if, and some interest was shown from an higher club he would want away just like he did at west brom. He had been at west brom since the age of nine and he showed them no respect at all.just a greedy bastard who isn't producing the goods for us. We paid 12m for him and he is on 70K a week and his return over the 2 years as been shit. so lets not get carried away by how well he his doing!

Equally, let's give credit where it's due when he's playing well? If he deserved the stick for being a waster, which he did, he deserves praise for belatedly working to put things right. Also, newsflash, if interest from a Prem club came along, most of our lot would be off like a shot.

The tap-in merchant in today's game doesn't have much of a place if he doesn't do anything else. Berahino is more than that anyway, he has more to his game. He can hold the ball up and he has a bit of skill. He looks transformed from the absolute nothing he was last year.

Fair play to Rowett and Phillips for starting to finally get something out of him.

I never got the whole Berahino thing in the first place and am utterly nonplussed as to why we should have ever have signed him at all - particularly for what is a decent fee. Last season he deserved every last bit of criticism he got. This season I see someone who will never justify his fee nor wages - however neither the fee nor what we are willing to pay him are his fault. What I also see this season (unlike last) is someone willing to put a shift in - I thought his effort against Derby once we went down to 10 men was immense - chasing and pressing and generally being a nuisance despite getting very little of the ball - and he's shown a willingness to work in other games as well. Therefore I for one won't criticize him for lack of ability and will get behind him so long he's working hard, showing commitment and wearing the shirt with some degree of pride. Which right now he seems to be doing.

I'm not getting the berahino love in right now. I totally agree Dave. If he played as part of a front two, he might show more, but out wide he's wasted (not his fault) and on his own up top, he offers little physicality (let's leave Afobe out of the discussion for now). When he had his purple patch at Albion, he whacked a few in from all over but shown no signs yet of repeating that. He's just not very good really. Afobe can finish but he really needs someone close to him to play off and with. The only way I think things would work out at the moment is with Clucas playing as a wide left midfielder, able to drift outside and come inside, Ince on the right and Bojan (or Berahino) behind Afobe with Woods and Allen (Etebo too) in a central midfield two. In a perfect world, I'd let Crouch and Diouf go and bring in another striker and a left winger, but how likely is that?

Yeah, I don't get the rush to judgment to dismiss his all round play and narrow it down to goals and goals alone, which even centre forwards playing as centre forwards week in, week out are no longer judged on these days.

He's staring to remind me of Diouf in the knowledge that he'll run about and put a bit of effort in, but is likely to leave the pitch without having scored. The only difference was that Diouf was on a free and Saido,………...lets not go there

Perhaps he does look good in flashes - am not denying this. But that's not what we need from someone in the #9 shirt. His contribution is massively off what is needed.
(Afobe's is too, but i can see how he'd score 15-20 with another creative attacker in the front 3)
Sorry, Berahinho is a League 1 striker for me - and another example of sentiment over reason. There are probably at least 15 championship strikers I'd take ahead of him.
