We weren't exciting, we didn't even look positive a lot of the time. Just what was needed tho - they're better than their league position, the game had nana skin written all over it, instead a nice tidy 2-0, top 10, positive goal difference. It might not always look convincing but this far into a season stats don't lie, we are now a solid football team. It's real. We can build from this.
7* from me

*7 I liked the starting selection (based on availability) and thought Saido really put a shift in. Not sure we will see Saido and Afobe start many games together though, so I expect Saido on his own at Villa Park When we play with pace and intensity we look really good...just don't do enough of it...is that the players or manager? Still, long time since we had a positive goal difference

5 with what we have and who we played against a win was expected. Should and could have been a better performance but the result was “satisfactory”.

5.5. Needlessly cautious versus a winless Ipswich at home. Took too long to get going at home, playing wide sitting back. Got a win, but poor play in all fairness as expected to win on paper and soon as Ipswich couldn't string two passes, confirmed.

I can’t understand why he is choosing Shawcross over Martins Indi ? I think Woods is sacrificing part of his natural game to act as cover for Ryan’s lack of pace, ball control and poor concentration, Williams and Indi were forming a good understanding of each other’s game and looked solid. We should also take into account that we are slightly handicapped at the moment because Ince is just returning after the hernia operation and Clucas is playing himself back into match fitness.

"Concerning" performance for me overall.
We were matched for most of that game by a team who have won 1 all season and look totally resigned to relegation.
There were 2 moments in the game where our intensity, tempo and quality shone through which resulted in 2 very good, and well crafted goals.
We lack tempo and aggression but more importantly, a belief to play on the front foot from the off.
1 up front at home is nonsense. Everyone back on corners is nonsense. Substitutions are horrific (albeit not overly important in todays game)
Until we rectify these things we will continue to huff and puff and will ultimately fall well short come the end of the season.
All in all, its win but it feels so... empty?

It wasn't pretty and we laboured and scrambled around for 3/4 of the game but I think it would be churlish not to give him something half decent for three points even if he himself pretty much admitted we were shit in parts. He gets a twatting for losses and draws so...

Sets himself a very low target, and fails to achieve it.

I imagine that he picks Ryan because he's much better in the air and provides leadership for the defence. What poor concentration? He was pretty good on the ball today, too.

Comfortable victory. If we play like that for the rest of the season and go up I won't care one jot.

-1 for having Fletcher on the bench -1 for actually subbing him in -1 for leaving Afobe out on an island by himself -1 for allowing his assistants to wear shorts in the middle of winter

5* from me. He managed to win a game against the bottom side by playing negative football. I would have given him a 4 but I've added 1 on for him at last telling the truth that he doesn't want Bojan at the club.

6* for me it would have been more but the arrogance of the man having the temerity to aim sarcasm at the crowd after what can only be seen as a fucking awful spectacle of a performance leaves me shaking my head. Gouranga.

It was tiresome. Pulis at his worse. I fell asleep 3 times. Martina and changing the centre backs again. The bench was very poor (Fletcher, Bogan and Edwards). 3

So overall considering we are shit, but we are in with a shout of the play offs if current form is to go by. I thought the football was dire today, i was actualy listening to the commentary more than watching the game live after about 20 mins which i paid for(missed the 1st goal, no replay), even the commentary is shite, which probably made the shite on view more shite than what it was.

6- he picked the right starting 11( perhaps Edwards for Martina) but again our efforts on goal against the worst team I have seen in many a year were miserable. He really is scared of trying to win a game by more than one or two at best. It’s alright playing the ball around at the back when your players are comfortable with the ball at their feet- the only one of our defenders who is comfortable is Edwards- by all means pass it about around the half way line or in the opposition half, but not 5 yards outside our box.

3 bored to death watching this shit with the negative tactics. Can’t wait see the season ticket sales in March going off what people are saying. Going be interesting see what Coates says about it. Ticket sales important revenue now were in the championship. Worrying times.
