I think Lambert gave his very best at Stoke. He was close, but didn't succeed in the end. He has also never said a negative word about Stoke in the media so he really deserves a good reception in my opinion.

Why? If you're going to call me out on my valid points, come back with some equally valid ones..... you've given me nothing so far. Mate at that point in Lambert's career a 2+ year contract with any Premier League club was double lottery-win stuff. Didn't his most recent effort to get back into the game culminate in a rejection from Hull? Out of nowhere he's offered a crack at keeping up a club that had only just slipped into the relegation zone of the Prem: Best-case scenario: maintain marginally better than relegation form and have a previously unthinkable chance to resurrect his career in the PL Second best-case scenario: go down but the board keep faith and have a pretty improbable chance to resurrect his career with the biggest-spending club in the Champ Worst-case scenario: go down, gets the sack, good pay-off but doesn't get too much blame attached to him, back in the managerial picture a bit, hopefully gets a job with another Champ club I can't imagine he thought about it for more than about .25 of a second. You could tell he couldn't quite believe his luck from the multiple times he expressed that he couldn't quite believe his luck in bewildered tones in the press. Like I say, I really can't fathom how you can see his eager acceptance of our gift horse as a mistake on *his* part. All valid points, so I'll respond with my feelings on them: Regarding the length of his contract, we both know there was an element of window dressing there. Coates had to come out firing and look like he was hiring a 'long-term' solution, rather than body shopping any old random into the club.... which some might argue Lambert was. Giving Lambert a 6 month contract would have screamed 'managed decline' to every football supporter and Premier League manager in the country. Best Case Scenario: I think it's unfair to suggest keeping us up would have resurrected his career. Like I said, you had pundits like Ian Wright claiming "Stoke are too good to go down" as we were staring down the barrel of a shotgun. I remember Wright saying it before the West Ham away game and thinking "wow, is he on the same planet as us Stoke fans". Had we beaten West Ham, we were still left with a hell of a task of trying to get points from Burnley, Liverpool, Palace with a crunch game at Swansea. Had we stayed up, I can't see Lambert getting much credit at all. It would have been seen as business as usual. Lambert would have been afforded a second season, however I doubt the fans would have taken to him and he would have been slowly moved on. It was clear he was not seen as a long term option. Second Best: You could argue this is what the board should have done, if they believed Lambert was the right man for the job. The fact they fucked him off so quickly actually backs up my earlier point about them seeing him as a body rather than an actual long-term solution to our problems. Worst Case: I can tell you're trying to pin the money thing on Lambert. I mean, how poor do you think this guy is? Do you think he's stood at the bar flicking through his wallet wondering whether he can afford another Vodka Martini or whether he might have to switch to Fosters? Stoke was a big opportunity and it made no sense to turn it down, but equally, the idea that he was going to fly out of it with a fuck tonne of credit regardless? Nah.... I don't think I suggested he was making a mistake as such, it was a calculated risk, but I think this idea that he was always going to come out the winner is purely a financial observation. I think Lambert came to the club for all the right reasons..... and tried his best with a shit squad. His appointment, on the other hand, was for all the wrong reasons but that is our club in the wrong.... not him.

i'll clap the guy..... He took on a fuckin shambles in the hope that he could turn it around and make big dreams of success. I don't think he had a chance. He was a stop gap till they found a new mediocre manager they liked that the board were looking for.

I think Lambert came to the club for all the right reasons..... and tried his best with a shit squad. His appointment, on the other hand, was for all the wrong reasons but that is our club in the wrong.... not him. Really don't know what you mean by "pinning the money thing" on him. I expect he was reasonably well-paid (probably pretty modestly in PL terms actually) but the only reason it's of any importance is that in his position it was an offer he wouldn't have expected to receive. I've got no issue with him accepting it if that's what you mean. I didn't say, and don't think, that he would "fly out of it with a fuck tonne of credit". But if he'd kept us up he would have started this season as a Premier League manager, with a *chance* to resurrect his career. As for it being a calculated risk... what was the risk? In the end the worst-case scenario actually happened, so presumably the dangers of this risk came to fruition - how is he any worse off now than before we offered him the job? My only issue is with your suggestion that he could be "a mug" (i.e. he made a mistake) for taking the job. I don't know if you're reading something more into what I've said, but ironically you've summed up pretty perfectly what I think about it in your own post: "Stoke was a big opportunity and it made no sense to turn it down.... his appointment, on the other hand, was for all the wrong reasons but that is our club in the wrong.... not him."

It was harder to relegate us than keep us up with that run in we had.
He was like a lost puppy.

I’ll give him a clap. He didn’t really have much chance turning this shower around. We are still shit now despite a further chunk of money being spent. He always came across as pretty geninue and likeable.
I also quite like Dortmund so liked him as a player.

You are telling me Lambert couldn't put a better team together with the money that's been spent on this present shambles.....it would take some doing. !!

Lambo as deluded as ever. They were the best team for large portions of the game. When you consider the gulf in value of both teams you can kind of see the point he's trying to make

If he honestly believes that he’s more deluded than I thought😄Worst team down Stoke for many a season and imo they wouldn’t have scored if theyd played all night and that on a day when we were average at best

Watching his Ipswich side was like deja vu. Well organised, his players seemed more up for it than Stoke’s, playing against a team that were struggling to string two passes together, had two sniffs of goal and scored them both. Unlucky really but that was us all over under him last season.
I watched it on Ipswich’s iFollow with Radio Suffolk’s local commentary and they seemed pretty pleased with the performance, bemoaning their luck and how the improved performances gave them a bit of hope of turning it around. It sounded so much like us last season.
They’ve lost 4 in a row now, which is something that they hadn’t done in Mick McCarthy’s entire reign - conceding at least 2 goals in all of them - so the performances are better but the results end up being even worse.

Lambert is kidding himself to describe that performance as brilliant, worst away side since Villa the year they went down.

Was given a pleasant and respectful welcome and all of the reserves who had played under him gave him a hug/handshake so must have left on positive terms.

He is still deluded. His team put in a great effort closing down but very little skill or creativity.
Like some of our performances under him, huff and puff effort but no talent.

I'm no psychologist but him scratching his neck his as he says they were excellent is a sure fire mark of someone that doesn't believe in the statement they're making.

The worry is mutts, I think they probably WERE the better of two poor teams today. Not for me mate I don't think they anywhere near "dominated" like Lambert has said, but trying to be un biased, I think they probably edged it. However the only stat that counts is the final score, luckily.

He is still deluded. His team put in a great effort closing down but very little skill or creativity. Like some of our performances under him, huff and puff effort but no talent. They created quite a few more chances than we did. Aside from the 2 goals we scored, we were very poor and they were the better side overall. They lacked quality throughout the game and that was clear from their countless mistakes and general lack of composure; but we almost managed to make an Ipswich that was dead on confidence at the start of the game actually look good because our negative attitude allowed them to gain some hope.

Stoke Az your quote was attached.
You watched a different game to me if they created a few more chances. They hit the outside of the post from a tight angle, missed a clear header at a corner plus a whipped cross across the six yard box. To Afobe's miss when impeded by the keeper and to clever moves resulting in goals. We tried several times to place balls centrally down the sides of their centre halves, not very well though and they huffed and puffed and launched it high into box which was meat and drink for our defence. We were below average but looked more creative than a team that will sadly be relegated this season.
