So what's going wrong - we've got brilliant facilities etc. Or is it just the Academy model doesn't work?

We’ve got players who are 20/21 who haven’t played a first team game in their career. They’re just stagnating, look at Shelton what’s the point?

I think they improve when they play alongside seasoned professionals, I'm not sure an u21 side Vs experience is doing a lot of good

On paper its a great concept but it just doesn't work. Looks to be a complete waste of money.

Lots of shiny new signs and double glasing only Goes So far, If they went about it properly they would have invested in top coaching talent from around Europe.
Money wasted YET AGAIN

What's all the fuss about?
Doesn't work we'll spend 35 million on Imbula and Winner instead.

They should be loaned out to lower league teams.....vale,crewe,macc,shrews, all the localish clubs at no cost to those clubs to get real world experience....then if they haven't made the grade by 20 move them on

Problem for us is that we’ve rarely been in a position where we can throw academy players into competitive games for the last few years. But I’m not sure why we can’t get more out on loan. As said above, the amount of under 21s that haven’t got anywhere near the first team is staggering. This will most probably be the biggest match some of them play in, some of them won’t make it.

So what's going wrong - we've got brilliant facilities etc. Or is it just the Academy model doesn't work? Stoke will rarely get the 'pick of the crop' of British youngsters as we'll be well down the 'attraction index' when talented boys are looking around for an academy. Chelsea are held up as an example of a very good set-up for youngsters and their teams seem to do very well. They can do this when they have 'hoovered' up so much of the better young talent that they can afford to have 20+ out on loan, getting their education in the hard leagues school. Not knowing much of other clubs' academy squads, I have no idea what is considered to be a good success rate for them. It could be anything from 1 in 5 for Chelsea, Man City and the like up to 1 in 15 or more for clubs like ours.

He is 21 years of age . At what age is he ready for our side ? Shenton couldn't get a regular game at Wrexham.

Just look at how our first team is ran? How is our pr doing? The media guys? Player recruitment? Scouting system? Our "partnerships" with other clubs abroad? How are they getting along? (Funny that a lot of our partnered clubs are now much "bigger" than us (better quality of player, better league etc)...
It hurts when the truth is laid bare. It really does.
Small time

No - it is a total dogs dinner
Given the money Coates has pumped in it is currently a total failure

Peter Coates has ploughed a fortune into the academy, possibly with the goal of providing a dynasty of local, home-grown first-teamers for the next twenty years.
Instead, he's been rewarded with a load of expensively procured youngsters from across the globe, not many of whom appear to be all that good. In that sense, it's very much like the first team.
At least we seem to be strangely effective at producing local-born right backs.

I’m afraid it’s men against boys. Some of these Stoke lads are wasting their time playing academy football. If it was my kid I’d be busting a gut to get them out playing “men’s “ football. Embarrassing competition disrespectful to lower league clubs. Good luck to the vale it’s their competition not ours .

How many clubs produce more than a couple of players every few seasons, I think a few people expectations are a little high.

Well when Pulis was around it was pointless, was Shotton one of ours? How many have other Champ/Prem teams managed in the same time frame? You can't really ask that question then take out one of the options , we can't score goals, apart from all the goals we've score when have we actually scored a goal.
