I've got several friends in Clermont- Ferrand in central France (I lived there for several years in the early 2000's) and they're telling me the whole country is just ready to erupt. What started as ostensibly a protest against fuel prices and tax rises has quickly turned into a co-ordinated organisation fully intent in ousting Macron and setting France on a different "less EU" path.
They say that with their "revolutionary history" they will not cease until Macron is removed. Le Pen seems to be getting more and more support.
They finish every email with "Vive la revolution !"
Interesting times.

I wonder if Salvini is more in touch with the Italian people than Macron is with the French?

It will be interesting to see how many people turn out for The Great Betrayal March in London tomorrow.
Here is an opportunity for Brexiteers to vent their spleen.
Will they though?
Remember, 700,000 turned out for the Remain march

If you've got nothing constructive to say rather than making stupid comments why bother commenting?

Bearing in mind London was mostly a remain stronghold it would have made more sense to hold the march in Birmingham or Manchester where Leave was of equal dominance.

The cause of the violence will be blamed squarely on Brexit supporters, although it will probably be rentamob inspired. You are right, marches are unnecessary. If this march gets more people than the last one, does that mean we get Brexit? If we get less does Remain win? It's pathetic that marches are happening at all.

Perhaps deserves its own thread. The French do not usually give up in their battle with their own government until they get what they want A large scale Fail Park.

Scary stuff.... But I expect nothing less from these deranged globalists who are hell bent on Europe's destruction. The Global Migration Agreement drafted by the UN is going to be signed next week in Marrakessh..... Has our government given us a say on if we sign it or not?? Lots of countries aren't going to sign up so why are we?? All power to normal French people who are fed up with this globalist agenda..... unrest is coming to Europe and I for one can't wait.... Populism and Nationalism are rising, the people are finally waking up.... Time for the 'French razor' to return

While you were typing that post, BJ, I was typing this one: I would have thought they'd have got the army patrolling the streets by now, especially if major Parisian landmarks are at risk of damage, hence closing the Eiffel Tower. Presumably the graffiti has been scrubbed off the Arc de Triomphe, but it could have been worse, and we all know how belligerent French demonstrators love setting fire to things, eg. lorryloads of live sheep. Let's see what happens over the next few days, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the army called out. And is it true that the EU want to form a EU Army? Looks like you were right Murph and I was wrong.
