Surely his mates in the Eu will come to his aid If not he can give the Eu army it’s first run out Perhaps this is why he wants an EU army. Leave the French arm in the barracks and get the German arm to brutalise the populace into submission or better still from what we've seen recently the Spanish Madrid division How very dare you when have the French ever been duplicitous

Oh dear. It really does appear that Monsieur Macron has peu d'admirateurs on this forum. Cleary his very pro EU stance makes him somewhat of a hate figure with some this side of La Manche. That allied with the fact that he soundly defeated in the Presidential Election the "pin up" girl of the populist right, Marine Le Pen. I hear that she is trying to soften the image of her party rebranding it the Rassembelment National in an effort to be more inclusive. Well we will have to wait and see that if she stands she has more success in 2022 - en quelque sorte j'en doute

Deary me the French government showing its usual backbone again And some on here want to be in the same Union as the cheese eating surrenders The first time I went to the EU complex in Brussels some streets were cordoned off and there were "armies" of Police outside the Commission. I didn't know what was going on until a parade of tractors/ farmers came down the road . They set fire to bales of hay on the tractors. The Police just watched.....I reckon in this country we would have intervened.Transpires that they were protesting about something to do with the Common Agricultural policy.A couple of observations.. the CAP is dictated by France and will never be changed. UK citizens would never effectively protest in Brussels. It is not in our mindset and geography and lack of proximity would rule it out. We don't engage with it and never will except for those who either have a vested interest in getting something out of it....other than that the ordinary person's main connection is funding the EU.Thirdly Belgium will like the EU because it gives them importance beyond their station and investment simply due to the location of the EU complex ( much the same reason that we fund the parliament in Strasburg simply to placate that city. Finally not only is it nieve but it is also a betrayal of the basic rate taxpayer to think that a German and French dominated EU will act in anyone interests other than their own. Anyway let's keep coughing up.

Can you imagine the outcry if British police held people like that in a large group. How they are kneeling makes them look like prisoners of war....big fat cheque going to them and their slimy lawyers if it was over here. As it’s France nothing will be said.

How they are kneeling makes them look like prisoners of war....big fat cheque going to them and their slimy lawyers if it was over here. As it’s France nothing will be said. It isn't just people XCH it is "schools"..…I think that there have been similar " arrests" across France.("More than 140 people were arrested when a protest outside a school in Mantes-la-Jolie in Yvelines ( the video clip) ended in clashes with police. Dozens of other schools were blockaded in cities including Marseille, Nantes and Paris") There's a bit more information from the BBC on this link. The unrest is wider than protest against fuel and may be France's version of the "populism" that is taking other forms across Europe... ... ........... The French government says it fears "major violence" in Paris on Saturday as the national "yellow vests" protest movement shows little sign of easing. The Eiffel Tower is to close along with many shops, restaurants and museums and thousands more police will be on duty. The government said it was scrapping the fuel tax increases in its budget - the original spark for the protests. But broader discontent with the government has spread, and protests have erupted over several other issues. On Thursday young people took to the streets, protesting over educational reforms. More than 140 people were arrested when a protest outside a school in Mantes-la-Jolie in Yvelines ended in clashes with police. Dozens of other schools were blockaded in cities including Marseille, Nantes and Paris. www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-46466268

Them kids lined up facing the wall looks like something from the end of Blare Witch Project. Funny how this didn't happen when men were protesting. Smacks of bullying

i think that this article spells out many of the problems across Europe..... arrogance.... arrogance that one group of people..... usually thise entitled...those on power..... don't listen to the ordinary citizen.....and don't think that thry should " we know best" ......and this is at the heart of BREXIT........ people don't like others telling them what is best for them....and never having the opportunity to be listened to....Power and control....,.. ..,.,..,... ‘Macron’s arrogance unites us’ – on the barricades with France’s gilets jaunes “I always feared that there was an element of dictator in the way Macron did things,” said Robert, 64, a leftwing Toulouse carpenter and cabinet maker. “He’s well-presented and he speaks nicely – but he misread these protests because he thought he was the saviour of France. He wasn’t listening, he forgot the human factor.” amp.theguardian.com/world/2018/dec/07/macrons-arrogance-unites-us-on-the-barricades-with-frances-gilets-jaunes?__twitter_impression=true

While you were typing that post, BJ, I was typing this one: I would have thought they'd have got the army patrolling the streets by now, especially if major Parisian landmarks are at risk of damage, hence closing the Eiffel Tower. Presumably the graffiti has been scrubbed off the Arc de Triomphe, but it could have been worse, and we all know how belligerent French demonstrators love setting fire to things, eg. lorryloads of live sheep. Let's see what happens over the next few days, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the army called out. And is it true that the EU want to form a EU Army?

I don't actually think that the EU army is intended for internal issues, I think that Guy Verhostadt wants one for genuine reasons....he believes in a United States of Europe and therefore he wants everything that goes with being a country and I respect him for that at least He is honest about what he wants. I think that the French riots are just another expression of the frustration of ordinary people with their political masters. It isn't just that they feel hard done by.... They know that they are not being listened to and that the politicians are not genuinely representing them , but are making decisions based upon some new world vision in which we have to tolerate everything, accept everything , open borders etc , top down government, mind control, political correctness, thought control......and yet crime and cultural clash and a decent future for young people is irrelevant. A complete disconnect and frustration
