I've just tried several times to post an update on the gilets jaunes situation but have received a message from ProBoards that I've been blocked from posting any tweets or links on the subject. 12 months after they started and the protests are still continuing, rightly or wrongly, but it seems there is a continued news blackout on this situation. It's a diabolical state of affairs. Where do the French get their impartial news from these days?

From what I'm told the protests have continued every week, mainly in Paris but also in other towns and cities, but the number of protestors has dwindled dramatically. Macron made some small concessions to try to appease the GJ's but overall nothing much has changed.
They don't seem to have achieved much really.

I have not looked into it Mr Coke but I seem to remember reading a while back that the amount and the ages at which they receive retirement/ state pensions in France and Germany is mire advantageous than in the UK. In a simple comparison, is that not the case? I'll have a look at your links

Not a single penny of council tax should go towards pensions. The fact me and the missus contribute about £300 a year towards other people putting their feet up 10 years earlier than me really boils my piss.

One time when i went to the EU parliament. The entrance was cordoned off by hundreds ( very many) military style police. Then out if the blue came a prossession of tractors/ agricultural machinery with all sorts of dressed up protesters on board. Exactly outside the entrance two massive bails of Straw were set on fire. Very impressive. The police simply stood and watched...I think that they were expecting it. I think that they were protesting against some proposed changes to the Common Agricultural policy. The French seem good at protests if their interest is threatened ( mind you to me it shows another negative of the EU.... simply geographically we don't relate to the HQ in the way that the Northern European countries are able to)

I obviously understand the logistics but it highlights how ridiculous moving Parliments actually is

The next day the farmers made breakfast for the city’s residents as an apology for the inconvenience. 🍳 Very Dutch.

Macron is a disgraceful twat. He'll unite the French people by digging his heels in over any trade agreement with the UK.

Eventually this media blackout will end. I cannot believe one of the nationals isn’t all over it. It's absolutely staggering. Much of this is happening closer to their London base than Newcastle-upon-Tyne is, yet there isn't a dickie bird.
