Hardly a peep from the media, it seems they can afford air fares to Venezuela and Hong Kong, but can't get their arses over to France to report the chaos that is the Macron government..... If Macron does introduce his pension changes and other "improvements" the gilets jaunes will be back with a vengeance. My friends in France tell me there has been a decrease in numbers recently, partly due to the violence, partly due to the on the spot fines that have been issued, and also because they're waiting to see exactly what Macron feels he can get away with. The old saying "Give 'em enough rope, and they'll hang themselves" appears to be exactly what the gilets jaunes are doing with little Manu. Time will tell but the next few weeks and months will be interesting. I don't think Macron fully understands the situation.

There's only one thing to say: "Vive la Révolution!" And still stuff-all news coverage over here. Bluddy disgraceful. I wonder if that deliberate lack of coverage of French unrest will change after we're out of the EU?

I've actually emailed the Beeb about the lack of coverage but they just gave some meaningless waffle in reply. It was the sort of "earnest" waffle you often see on Newswatch when one of them is hauled in to answer questions about their poor/excessive/non-existent coverage of some story. So no I don't think they will suddenly start to cover this or other similar stories when (IF) we leave the EU. Not as long as we've still got the same breed of editor or director employed there.

The gilets jaunes protests are still going on but surprise surprise there is still no coverage whatsoever on the MSM in the U.K..
This latest footage shows yet more of the brutality of the police - this person apparently died from the injuries sustained.
Numerous members of the police are apparently being taken to court after being charged with excessive brutality.
Up to the middle of June there had been around 50,000 protestors injured, some with broken limbs, and some more severely with loss of an eye, or a hand, and 11 deaths due to police brutality.
The protests are still going on every weekend, and are actually gaining momentum again as Macron has apparently reneged on some of his latest promises of fuel cuts, tax cuts, etc. The protests had started to leave city centres and gather in suburbs instead, but in view of Macron's stance the protests are once again back in the city centres. This was last Saturday in Paris, but there are protests all across France. Little Manu has seriously misjudged the situation and it's rapidly escalating out of his control, and the police and gendarmes brutality has increased yet again.

Week 34 - smaller crowds than in the past few weeks but still sizeable enough to warrant a substantial police presence in Paris and across the country.
The gilets jaunes leaders seem to have scored a bit of an own goal this weekend - one of them was asked why the crowds seemed smaller and he replied it was possibly due to the heat and also because some of the protesters had gone on holiday. It was quickly pointed out in French media that the gilets jaunes had been protesting because they were struggling financially due to Macron's tax rises and austerity measures.
One video from the previous weekend showed a protester being dragged out of his wheelchair before being knelt on by one of the police.
Macron is keeping quiet at the moment and was more involved in selecting the new EU leaders.

Lots of waving their national flag One dragging the eu flag across the floor while people wiped their feet on it I love the french...great people There are quite a lot of people who want Frexit but they are watching what a shambles May and Parliament have made of it, and want to see the final outcome before really starting to agitate in France. The current mood is Remain but if the UK are seen to do well (if we ever leave) then the Leave faction in France would start to push for a referendum. I wouldn't think there would be the same situation and delays in France as we've seen in the House of Conmen. Macron's quest for Ever Closer Union is not something the French really want.

It amazes me how the uk public are not making a bigger thing of this Not what's happening in france so much...more the worrying direction our media is taking and we are accepting of it Apparently very similar in the US with teachers protests.....all hushed up I'm not trying to publicise or necessarily support what the gilets jaunes are doing (although I feel that they do have some justification with Macron's policies) but I have friends in France who I'm regularly in contact with and they are amazed and disappointed that there is absolutely NO coverage of these protests whatsoever in the U.K. There is a lot more going on even than is shown on social media but is sometimes reported in French media. The difference between the complete lack of any coverage of these protests in France by the Beeb or any of the MSM, compared to the prominence given to the Hong Kong protests is both extremely disappointing and very worrying. Even when people are on the receiving end of the police brutality there is no mention whatsoever. There is an obvious agenda in the UK MSM to hush this up, or as has been said on this thread previously is there a government directive to suppress any coverage of it ? Maybe they're frightened of similar protests over here ? They must be aware that people have seen the footage on social media, and do know what is going on, so why do they try to completely ignore what is going on ?

Week 35 and Bastille weekend - plans for big protests right across France by the gilets jaunes.
But.....there are new kids on the block which could lead to even more trouble. This week has seen protests at the Pantheon by the "gilets noirs" (black vests) who are "undocumented" or basically illegal immigrants who want the French Prime Minister to grant them full French citizenship. This was only around 700 (mainly African) people but the police did intervene and there were several injuries. It's believed this movement is set to rapidly grow due to the large numbers of immigrants (legal and illegal) in France and their "dissatisfaction" at their current "status" in French society. They are usually either exploited for minimum wages, or are completely ignored/invisible and they want better conditions, wages, and full citizenship. This doesn't sit well with many French as they feel there are far too many immigrants already and this could open the floodgates for many more.,

But there is no quick fix magical answer and haphazard immigration into Europe is not the answer. Its a big diverse world , its better to help development in the places that these people originate from. Merkel has helped to create yhe decline of Europe.

Yes, I agree Big John, I've not got a problem with that, haphazrardard immigration across Europe hasn't worked and development should be in their home country. A lot of the French think if Macron and the French P.M. yield to the gilets noirs demands it will open the floodgates for even more immigrants to enter France. It's pretty clear there is an agenda in this country as it's just the gilets noirs protest that is getting coverage across the media and yet the gilets jaunes are being totally ignored and coverage is actually being banned which is both extremely worrying and very wrong.
