Can anyone explain to me what the attraction is with this game?
I remember watching a reserve game at Fail Park when Lou was manager and our reserves were poised to win the league and there was probably around 2000 Stoke fans in attendance but this one looks like we are going to fill the away end for what is effectively, for us, a youth team game.
It's a great effort for sure but I'm struggling to see the attraction...perhaps its because its the only time we'll ever play the Vagrants and it not matter whether we win or lose. There is never anything for us to gain by playing the Fail so maybe that is the attraction here?

It's a game of football between two bitter rivals in a trophy that gets you to Wembley. Times have changed, we don't play them regularly anymore so take what you can to see a Potteries Derby. I hope we never have to play a league game against them again.

To be honest I'm just excited to be playing them again, I couldn't give a stuff if it is our u21's.

That OVF thread is worth a read. One fella bemoaning the format change (which I agree with) and suggesting it's led to poor crowds....as oppose the Wembley of the North being packed out in every other competition they're in.

Also, can someone change the thread title please?
Stoke are taking 1500 MAX and that's an OVF FACT.

Away teams entitled to 10% of reserved or ticketed places ( separated arrangements for directors , disabled etc ) , home club set the prices Believe after expenses it’s 45% each .. 10% to the pool .. from what I can recall in previous seasons invited clubs didn’t receive any of the receipts from the group games , nor could they claim expenses ..not sure if invited clubs claim the receipts due ..believe previous seasons some waived the right Any losses fall on the home club At the Vale supporters meeting last night the Vale CEO said that available tickets were to allow a judgement to be made on demand , if required Stoke would be given more tickets ( now done ) and other parts of the ground would be opened if needed .. starting with the Bycars , then railway stand Wasnt this clamour for Sunderland .. hopefully people will remember it’s the youth , so although there’s been a marked improvement in performances compared to the two previous seasons ...it’s still the youth and therefore 80% chance we’ll not go through .. hope it’s support of the youth and not Vale baiting that’s attracting people ..oh and no Rooster out if we lose..I’ll not hold my breath

Now we have Olly Shenton who barely did anything at Wrexham as captain, Jake Dunwoody, Dan Jarvis. Be stunned if 75% of them ever play for our first team, yet we are suddenly saying they are representing us in a Potteries Derby game. Complete hogwash, and those who say oh it's my first derby game or my kids first derby game....it really isn't . Fair play if you want to go but it's a big no no for me.

It's good for the young lads that they'll get to experience a decent away atmosphere from us. Need a load of new songs for them, with a few Vale jabs thrown in, obviously.

The closest we've come to a Potteries derby for a long time, it's only the youth team but it's a nice chance to see some of the academy in action and the chance to have a bit of fun with our local rivals. It'll also give people a night off Rowett bashing, and hopefully give Mr Rowett some motivation to give youth a chance if a few of them do well in front of a decent crowd, Campbell is certainly pushing for a place on the bench.

Just ordered 4 tickets now. Looking forward to this one. A bit of Vale bashing, watching some of the younger lads play against some league players.
It's a hard one, on one hand the U21's I think will be technically better footballers but like we know in any league, technicality can lose to strength and fitness which I'd expect Vale to be better placed with. Either way I don't think there's many bragging rights to be found either north or south of the city regardless of result, but if there's a cracking atmosphere and decent game it will be worth every one of the 1,000 pennies paid. It'll also nice to be back slumming it at Vale Park with the red and whites after nearly two decades. I've only been back once since then and I've not had another speeding offence since...

Going to be interesting how they approach this. My best man is one of the unwashed. Last week apparently they made 8 changes and played a reserve side and gave a 15 year old school kid his debut. He reckons to save face they will do likewise . The kids have clearly improved from losing to Morecambe 3-1 to now going unbeaten in the group. No idea how strong/ weak the Sunderland side was .

It would make sense. As said by a few, they just can't win. Win and it's against our kids. Lose and it's against their kids. Even the fans can't win with going or not as once they discover how many we are taking there will be plenty who will feel obliged to go just so that we can't laud it over them that we've taken more for our U21's, but on the other hand it will probably be their biggest gate of the season against not even our reserves, the age group below! Poor f*ckrs! That said, I'd love a huge crowd with a bit of atmosphere with the result not being all that important, a few beers and hopefully a load of them hating us even more

Surprised about the crowd tbh
It's not a real derby, it's Stoke's youth team. Vale could end up playing kids themselves.
I don't think many Vale fans will turn up, infact that 1,900 probably already means we'll have more than half of the crowd.
I could understand interest from it given we're having such a boring season so far, but if we lost 5-0 I don't think it that much difference.

over on onevilefan one or two have woken up to the idea that we might have more than them in the ground and are upset about this and are calling for a large turnout, some are still on about picket lines and boycotting, including one who suggests that if no vile fans turn out then we would be the ones to be embarrassed, struggling with the logic on that one to be honest
but one has been told in the ticket office that if the sales for us continue and vile uptake is slow we will get a further allocation!

I'm honoured as there are some wank things said on here so i'll take it as a compliment. I'm a sad Stoke fan who has had an account way before the draw was made, so not sure what you are insinuating. Put it this way this shower of shit has taken precedence over a vital game against QPR because we are going to take Burslem by storm, fucking grow up. This competition is a pile of cack that has suddenly become a play thing for many on here. Only 7000 could be arsed for Huddersfield in the Carabao cup yet Vale reserves v Our kids is now huge ?

Well, I see a lot of people suggesting the Onevalefan forum, so i thought I'd go have a gander. Reading it has taught me a lot. I knew they were retarded, but not that retarded - It seems modern civilization has not yet reached Burslem.....but they don't teach that in schools, do they? One sad bastard wrote: "We need to go further than that. I urge TRUE supporters to join me in creating a picket line to prevent any misguided supporters from entering the ground. Not one self respecting Port Vale supporter should be in that ground that evening" - JESUS H CHRIST. 1. If they drew UTD away or someone similar, theyd all jump at the opp to go to Old Trafford. They just don't like the fact that we'll outnumber them, so theyre staging a fake boycott. LOL 2. What sad bastard Vale fan would take valuable time from making love to their sisters, to go and 'picket' fans. HAHA. I thought the fake boycott was bad, but the picketing has got me in tears. Im only on page 1 of the forum. Freak show.
And who gives a fuck if its our u21s our u23s or our over 50s we've not played them for 20 odd years, itll be cracking. Our u23s pumelling vale in front of 4000+ Stokeys and 3 Vale 'Fans' and a cat. UTP.
