The bus was damaged, tear gas grenade thrown into the bus and six Boca players injured. linkWhat genius arranged for the Boca players/staff to arrive in a big bus with the Boca crest on it through the normal route? They should have arranged for the players/staff to arrive in unmarked cars into a back entrance.

Even in the batshit crazy realm of South American football this has been one hell of an episode. Usually it's a bit zany and quirky but this is severe and dangerous.
Bloody hell.

In the real world, Stoke could be taking north of 4,000 to the Checkatrade derby. Fuck knows how many will be at the pre game training session.

Behind closed doors - I imagine that will go down well Ive not seen any reports that it is behind closed doors? The Freesports channel had it running across the bottom of their screen last night, saying postponed until tomorrow and behind closed doors. Didnt actually see a report, just that message

Itβs been called off again, three hours before βkick-offβ. Fans in the stadium. New date tbc.
Total farce.

This should have been the decision the minute the incident with the team bus came to light yesterday, without all this absurd vacillating on kick-off βdelaysβ and replaying it 20 hours later.

Should be played behind closed doors. Of course that ainβt gonna happen though because the ONLY thing that matters to the custodians of the game is DINERO!!!

There's every chance the game will now be played in the UAE. First it removes the "fan" problem, secondly the world club nonsense is taking place there and the fixtures could seamlessly combine. Too much crime in South America and reading between the lines it was revenge against the police for having banned illegal ticket sales. If there are any genuine fans then it's completely spoiled it for them.

In 20 years there could be a very good film made about this final. It might be completed by then.

Itβs all kind of thrilling in a temporary, tawdry way but itβs a bloody shame really. One of the biggest club ties ever to take place in the Americas, pretty much completely ruined

Some of us have waited a lifetime for it. Global technology creates global moments. The same universal scrutiny usually afforded to major European matches.

It won't happen now but one of my greatest desires in nogger was to attend a game between Boca and River. Basically, nogger is tribalism and it doesn't get any better/worse? than a game between those two teams. This lot is batshit crazy, but it doesn't surprise me one bit. When tribalism at its most raw form rears its head, it can be hypnotic. I'm wishing they would hold the game at Boca just so we can watch the madness. OS.

Interesting bit of gossip I just heard from the lad I work with is that police raided one of the River Plate 'criminals' houses two days before the game and seized USD & Pesos to the tune of USD175,000 plus 300 tickets. Said criminal has taken his revenge against the authorities by organizing this chaos including somehow re-routing the bus down this street. Take it with a pinch of salt but nothing would surprise me with this lot, its corrupt as hell down there. EDIT:- Looks like BBC have got hold of it. www.bbc.com/sport/football/46341666

Good point I was thinking more in terms of England being banned and English teams after Heystal but I get your drift and I'm talking out my arse haha ππ

The big meeting is today to determine if/when the second leg is to be played.
Genoa have offered to host it. That's a gig Vale have missed out on. πππ

When you think about it, it's absolutely ridiculous from a River Plate point of view. They were in a fantastic position to win the trophy after the first leg.
Now their "home" leg isn't even going to be in the country. They've really been fucked over by some of their own fans.

Hopefully the real River fans will now turn their back on their mafia following and stop buying tickets from them etc....though I wouldn't hold my breath. They have been lucky not to be expelled, though Boca are threatening to go to Court to demand this still. The decision to move it out of Argentina is because of the G8 Summit starts on Thursday and will take up all policing resources.
