Just wondering if Harry's decided yet.............. C'mon, H.......... we're excited to know what is to be! - And you won't be able to take any of them out to cook, just so we're straight on that one. Yeah, ditto, have you gone for it H? I'm thinking about giving away all my Platys. As gorgeous as they are, there's too many of them and they've very busy around the tank so it's a bit distracting as they're in constant motion.
I'd like some more blue in one of the tanks so might have a try again with Electric Blue Rams. Very pretty fish. Just need to get the male/female balance right. Had problems before until they grew & I could figure out which were which. Funnily enough, I found the best balance was two males, one female. One male & the female paired off & were very peaceful with all other occupants, the other male just made a little corner territory for himself & woe betide any fish that encroached. All male populations seemed to work ok for me too, much against my expectations. Pecking order firmly established & respected. Female-dominated populations were chaos ..... not that I'll try & draw any parallels from that ....
Did you get one, 'Arry? It's all gone quiet........

We had one of those orb tank things few years ago and made the mistake of putting live plants in it. Two weeks later the tank was taken over by fucking snails. (**Blushy facey thingy**) You could've tapped on the glass and asked them to tone it down a bit. Anyway, I thought having loads of snails was essential for keeping the water quality pure? I've bought loads of rams horn snails over the years and tipped them into the ponds.....

I've bought loads of rams horn snails over the years and tipped them into the ponds..... Not essential, Murph. Although they definitely help keep the glass & ornaments clear of algae.
Need to be the right snails, though. We have tiger & zebra snails in the main tank. They don't breed under the tank conditions. All hunky dory.
But like LL, we bought a plant for the small tank & a week later had hundreds of tiny little blighters. They covered every surface & seemed to be speedy gonzalez merchants, scooting about. We evict them on a daily basis & we got some assassin snails too which keep them under control now. Evict = lob them into the outdoor pond. No idea if they thrive in there or not, we keep it as a still wildlife pond rather than a pump-driven fish pond nowadays so the surface is mostly covered with oxygenating plants & we can't see into the depths.

As we have community tanks, loaches are a bit fierce and generally get a bit too big for me, Riv. They will definitely eat all the snails, though.
Got up this morning to discover one of the platys in the smaller tank had passed away. No surprise, the originals are getting on a bit now. Couldn't work out what on earth it was at first, it was a black seething mass. Covered in snails which had obviously discovered the body during the night. Hey ho, means I got rid of dozens of the blighters in one easy go, anyway.
Still pondering whether to give Electric Blue Rams another go. I'd really like some blue in the main tank. Any other blue options you'd recommend? 200 litre tank, fairly sparsely populated. Freshwater, kept at about 26 degrees centigrade. only a couple of ornaments/caves but one hollow synthetic log which the rams I had commandered in the past. Decent amount of plant cover, surface to midwater. All parameters well balanced & stable. Currently under-populated, just 4 corydora brochis, 4 glowlight tetras, a half a dozen young platys (which breed well so are generally transferred to another community tank or sold on to a shop as they get a bit larger), and a couple of red phantom tetra. Oh, and a couple each of zebra snails & tiger snails.
Mrs Q has said if I pack in the fags, she'll buy me a 400 litre tank & some discus. Now there's an incentive !

I Have a Aqua One Aqua Reef 400 tank with a 50ltr sump, got loads of fish in a very mixed community. 3 Clown loach stay in the cave most of the day coming out to play at night, they don't seem to bother the other fish. King of the tank is a 9 inch Silver Shark (Bala Shark) who also likes snails. Some Angels, Gourami's and a few Boesmans Rainbow fish are the larger stock. Lots of smaller tetras especially love the Rummy Nose and Red Neon as they seem hardier than my Blue Neons but still give great colour. Corys and some pleccys for cleaning and usually have a Siamese Flying Fox(Be sure to get the right one as many are miss sold). I find the sump easier to run than a pump and it does a good job. I run an R/O unit then add salts as the water here is pretty poor and I dont like tapsafe anyway. I'm a relative novice but half the fun is learning by your mistakes^. The community creator on here I find a great tool. www.thinkfish.co.uk/ www.thinkfish.co.uk/article/community-creator

I got round to setting up a scape in August. Had a lot of issues since then but fairly pleased with how it's looking now it's maturing. Still got some algae issue (nowhere near as bad as before) and made a load of mistake/learnt a ton about aquascaping, but fairly proud of this as a reintroduction. Actually got a 2nd tank that I'll be setting up some time in 2022. That should hopefully end up looking way more professional than this. Can't wait to set a new one up with the knowledge I have now.
Anyway, just posting this for a few YT hits I guess.
Did you end up getting the tank for your grandkids Harry?
