If there is a great football pitch upstairs Geoff will be rubbing shoulders with another character from that famous Blackburn match, Noel Brotherton ( I think his name was ?) he was Blackburn’s most dangerous player and for our younger viewers he was in his 20s but had a bald top with vivid ginger curls that sprouted from above his ears and flowed to his shoulders with a complexion that made TC look deep tanned ! He looked similar to the clown from IT. Those were great days, it just so sad that we are loosing players from that era at such a young age to a illness that should be eradicated by now.

I was stood just to the left of the boothen goalmouth that day Geoff I think was in the Birmingham team and left back that chamberlain ran ragged a few years later as we went 4-0 up at ht at St Andrews

Wuzza - on a lighter note I have had a quick look through Google at said Noel and your reference to the clown off IT is genius, utter genius.

Sad news, replacing Alec Lyndsey made Geoff look sensational!!! In all seriousness though, he wasn't too bad!!! He used to live round the next street from me in his Stoke days....he was lodging at some folks house in George Street Fenton!!! RIP Scotty lad!!!

Yes indeed, we were promised the 'sweet left foot of Alec Lindsay', normally slicing it in to the Paddock! As you say Geoff Scott by contrast was not too bad in a 'Bambi on Ice' kind of way. I can't believe be is gone, I still imagine him as the blonde bombshell he was in his playing days for us! RIP

So very sad, and scary that he was the same age as me. Had his limitations as a player but, like others have said, always gave his all for the team and was a vital member of the promotion-winning side in '79. RIP Geoff.

This is very sad news indeed. I loved that promotion team that Alan Durban assembled. Geoff Scot was an integral part of Alan Durban's red and white army. I can still recall a trick Geoff used to do when he had the ball in the left back position. He fooled the opposing player into thinking he was passing back to the keeper, twisted his body and set off up the left wing. Another part of Stoke City to leave us, and far too early. R.I.P Geoff.

Alec Lyndsey....the only player I ever saw play for Stoke who moved his arms faster then his legs I liked Geoff Scott, I really believe he meant that shot in the Blackburn Game...which makes it one of the best ever scored in my 46 years watching Stoke....bit of a character as well. A hero of Alan Durbans Red and White Army

I always thought Geoff would develop into a centre half like Bouldy did. Anyway R.I.P.

Sad news. I met Geoff once when I was a young un and he was 3 sheets to the wind with Brendan O Callaghan. He used to post on the Oatie occasionally I think, so in more ways than 1 he was one of us.

And he did have an extending long leg like Steve Bould which he could nick the ball away with. Both were 'Bambi On Ice' like in the early days of their careers and figures of some hilarity among Stoke fans brought up on Dennis Smith and Mike Pejic. But both carved out decent careers, I wouldn't have bet on either in the early days.

Very sad news regarding Geoff Scott.
Stoke went on a pre-season 77/78 tour of Ireland. Three of us went to see us play Finn Harps and Thurles (we were probably the only 3 Stoke fans there). Whilst there we got invited back to the team's hotel where we joined in the post match piss up.
Geoff Scott had only joined the club a few months before and had yet to make his league debut. We had a really good night with the players and spent quite a bit of time talking to Geoff, he was a really decent bloke. I recall him telling us that he couldn't believe his luck that he'd been signed by Stoke, he thought that he'd missed his chance when he didn't make it at Villa. He told us he wasn't going to blow his chance to this time. He was true to his word, he made his debut a few months later and became a regular in the promotion side.
