Long story short, a mate of mine (not a Stoke fan) sat next to a member of Lamberts coaching team at a wedding recently. Spoke mostly about Villa, but also some Stoke snippets. Some stuff I’ve heard on here before, Like Berahino constantly late and fined thousands of pounds, Crouch the best character in the dressing room etc. But he also told 2 stories about players he refused to name.
1) Peter Coates was talking to Lambert about a tackle this player made during a game, saying he would never of made that tackle under Hughes. Lambert asked the player outright in front of the whole team and the player agreed that he wouldn’t of done it for Hughes. Lambert went ballistic.
2) They couldn’t understand some of the signings made under Hughes. He said that 1 player simply couldn’t kick the ball (my mate thought he was joking but he was deadly serious). He had extra 1 on 1 sessions after training to teach him how to kick a ball.
Wouldn’t divulge names and could apply to a few players, answers on a postcard.

You’ve lost me on 1. Good tackle, bad tackle? why did Lambert go ballistic? Just the fact that he made the tackle. Lambert went ballistic as it showed the player didn’t always give 100%.

So why go ballistic if you were getting improvements out of players, if they were prepared to do positive things for Lambert that they wouldn’t do under Hughes, surely he would have been encouraged by that?

Choupo Moting will be number 1 And like Dave says Sobhi number 2 If true it is definitely sobhi. I picked that up the first time i saw him warming up. Resident pro rickyfuller wouldn't have it though Out of interest, has sobhi played for Huddersfield yet?

Surely it's got to have been some sort of reckless tackle. Charlie's the only one I can remember doing that sort of thing, but he's done that under every manager.

I'll go curve ball for 1. Shaqiri. Nearly as left field as Moting. You might as well go the whole hog and say Bojan who has never made a tackle in his life.

Number 2 definitely isn't Sobhi. That's a ridiculous suggestion. We signed Sobhi off the fact he was African footballer of the year for about 2 years in a row, wasn't he? You don't get that if you're as untalented as is being described.
It might be before Lambert's time, but I wonder if the player he is talking about is (RIP) Dionatan Teixeira. Big Jonny was a Hughes signing and I'm sure it was rumoured that there was a long standing joke amongst the staff in the club they didn't believe he was Brazilian because he was so bad at football.
He had gone by the time Lambert arrived, but not everyone in the club left with Hughes. Staff remained so like many jokes, they get passed down.

Nobody said he was “untalented”, they said he couldn’t kick a ball, which I assume means actually strike hard rather than pass/control/dribble. Anyone who’s seen him play knows that’s entirely believable.

Ohh..... well they are talking about Jack Butland then, because once again his kicking on Saturday was beyond the pale for an international goalkeeper. Most of his goal kicks don't even reach the half way line.

Encouraged by a player admitting that if they decide to not like the manager at any given time, then they won't give 100% for the badge?
Because that's what that player has just done! It may have been a previous manager but it says a hell of a lot about that player's character overall

Think there’s a fair bit of supposition there and even if correct, Lambert going ballistic? So the player has done something positive and it’s an improvement and he goes ballistic, (even if previous behavior is unacceptable) that’s crap man management too!

Wouldn’t divulge names and could apply to a few players, answers on a postcard. Re 1. , is it either:
Lambert went ballistic because he made a reckless tackle that he would have not made under LMH (as he would have previously shown more restraint / professionalism under LMH but not under PL)?
or,
Lambert should have been pleased that he made the tackle under him and not Hughes (as he was showing greater commitment for PL)?
It reads as 2. but is that what you mean?
Re 2. Seems about as likely as some of the goings on on the Bodyguard last night.
Seriously? A professional footballer that cos kicka bo?
Behave - he must have been drunk.
That said:
1. Chubby Charlie 2. There's a few come Satdee's of late, so take your pick ; )
