Best midfielder since N Zonzi and yes only one game.

Really composed, tidy on the ball, good footballing brain. Really promising and a (fairly) local lad as well.
Really good start to his career here

He's kind of the anti-Allen.
Only runs when he has to, only puts tackles in he's got a more than even chance of winning, turns down stupid shots 25 yards out (Looking at you Adam), rarely turns his back to the centre-forward, looks calm and dictates the tempo and pace of the play around him.
Put some more people with a footballing brain around him on the pitch and we'll be absolutely fine.

Looked very good today! he should keep the ball on the floor because his long-range passing leaves a lot to be desired really but it's very refreshing to see a player in a Stoke shirt who constantly wants the ball & is able to dictate a game of football from deep. Superb. "His long range passing leaves a lot to be desired",I don't know what you were watching but I thought his long range passing was superb!

Probably the three of four long range passes he made which went either out or to their centre halves. Otherwise he had a great game but that doesn't seem to be his forte. Almost every ball he kept on the floor was perfect.

Superb game. Tired for the last twenty minutes or so,as did Etebo.
Understandable fitness issue. That should come.

He played very well, but almost gifted them a goal when he lost the ball in his own half.

Give him 5 games he will soon be dragged down to the rest of our players level.

If any Stoke fan watching the game today can say Woods wasn't impressive they could just as well go and watch golf or something else!

He certainly was, but my point was that even an impressive player makes ocassional mistakes. We are generally too mistake oriented especially towards certain players.

To have 90% passing is incredible when he didn’t just play safe passes he played a lot forward.
He’s a bit of a mix of Nzonzi and Bojan dare I say

Sitting back, having the energy to cover and ability to spray the ball around frees them up to support the forward line and give their running more purpose. There's some potential in that midfield three.

Looks an absolute gem of a player, everything we have been crying out for.
We should have bought more players like him who are young but experienced in the championship.
Ollie Watkins should have been signed instead of McLean.

He was superb today. Everything went through him. He looks a class act. To be fair to him and stoke we actually played well and should have been out of sight in that match

They weren’t poor passes as such, just high-risk balls that didn’t quite come off. It’s definitely a big part of his game.

Who's taking the credit for the signing? The man who threatened to quit if we didn’t sign him?

Who takes the flak for him not arriving early enough? He was available all summer and we sign him so bloody late. Why? Baffling. We clearly weren't focusing on him until very late. Even Clucas was prioritised over him. He was available for anyone who stumped up the money (and the amount was well known) all summer.

I certainly thought it was an impressive full debut, I just think it seems to suit him to dictate from deep. I'd keep Etebo in alongside him & bring Bojan into the fray. It's just that creativity in and around the final third which I think we lack. Bojan is the only player capable of unlocking defences. Today he, albeit with limited minutes, didn't give the ball away once, held play up well and played some creative passes. He is far and away the most intelligent player we have.

Best midfielder since N Zonzi and yes only one game. Nothing like N'zonzi but he does appear to have the potential to fill a Whelan size hole that has been a major issue for us.

They were happy to wait an extra week if it wasn't for that. The lack of urgency we've addressed our problems has been a disgrace.

Hard to get any kind of handle on why an injured Clucas was bought for the same money 3 weeks before him as it was well signposted he could have left all summer for that figure? Just makes no sense
