A bit soon to write him off imo. He could be the new john walters - runs around a lot, irish, divides fans, doesn't often beat his man. But to be that he needs absolutely sweat blood for us every single time he pulls on the shirt. Don’t. Jon Walters was my favourite player of the Stoke not being completely shit era. A tiny part of me thinks we were doomed from the moment we agreed to sell him. Do not compare McLean with a bona fide club legend

v Leeds: 55% pass success (PS), 53 touches (T), 1 shot on target (OT) v Brentford: 67% PS, 57 T, 0 OT v Preston: 50% PS, 30 T, 0 OT v Wigan: 67% PS, 44 T, 0 OT
All played as one of our front 3 or 4, playing wide and meant to be a principal creator (which he has never been in all his playing career). It was an odd signing at the time it was made; looks even stranger now. His passing and his set-plays are just awful too; he does stuff that I'd be groaning at if we were in League Two.

McLean is not ny cup of tea
But, how many times was the ball smashed down his side of the pitch for him to chase a lost cause?
Woeful aĺl over tonight, McLean was no worse than the majority of our lot

New winger has got to be top priority for one of the 2 remaining loan spots. I would agree but we need 2 CB’s a DM a striker who can find the net and a LB to replace the useless Pieters , fuck were in trouble 😂😂

Awful signing. And what’s more we don’t even have anyone to drop him for. Bojan shouldn’t be playing on the wing. And if Ince is injured we are screwed. Can’t even put a side with 2 wingers out.

Truely awful signing, what does he offer. Berahino was a terrible signing but at least with him he has ability. McClean one of our worse signings in ten years

His goal and assist stats told us everything we needed to know before we signed him.
It’s a crazy decision by Rowett, I don’t care how he works it’s pointless having a winger like him in the side if he can’t score or create goals.

He's fucking shocking. West Brom have had our pants down for £5m. That sort of cash in the championship could get you a couple of young players who are eager to prove themselves and fight for the team.

Embarrassing to see him in a stoke something else Coates didn't listen to seen as he said he had learned lessons. Another 6 million spunked Down the drain n on a long contract great another waster here for years

Seriously crap last night needs to be dropped but so do 5/6 others That’s the problem though isn’t it. Aside from Berahino (can’t believe I’m saying that) and maybe Ince they were all shocking last night including the whole back four. Somehow Rowett has to have the balls to pick a starting eleven and stick to it and make it work. I mean for god sake we even had Adam on the bench last night and what’s he done to warrant a place over say Sorensen. Seems like he’s clutching at straws just four games in.

Adam in the bench shows he’s shit scared to try any youth players he gets out of jail with Edwards as he’s played a few Prem games. I suppose you could say Lambert was better in that respect when he plucked Sorensen from obscurity and he looked pretty good in those last games last season. The only way Rowett will play any now is desperation to get a result. His comment in the Sentinel shocked me when he says “I have to now pick a team of players that deserve to be in it not one because they’ve played in the premier league for 10 years” he should have been doing that anyway, unbelievable

Why are there not threads for all of the others have who have been so poor?
He's had a mare so far, yes but then our best chances in recent games have come from him via his crosses or for the Pieters goal, him taking a defender away from Pieters. He's on a hiding to nothing, he of all players will know he is limited but he will cross tirelessly in a side enjoying waves of attacks, we're nowhere near that at the moment and in the meantime he is having to contest butland's long balls in his general direction and pieters knocking the ball 40 yards in front of him to chase against two defenders.
He's not been good but lets not place the bulk of the blame at the easy target.

People are simply saying he is gash, which he is, which we knew he was before we signed him.

A tiny part of me thinks we were doomed from the moment we agreed to sell him. Do not compare McLean with a bona fide club legend Heartfelt apologies Will, I did initially compare McClean to a "very, very poor man's Jon Walters without the goals and the ball control". Having watched him for 4 games I realise how very wrong I was; there is not one single aspect of McClean's attributes as a footballer that is worthy of comparison with Walters. Earlier on this thread someone has offered Richard Cresswell as a possible ex player to use as an unfavourable comparison for McClean. I understand the choice but once again have to point out the folly of this comparison. Richard Cresswell, whilst limited, had an eye for goal, basic ball control and a reasonable understanding of positioning on a football pitch. McClean has none of these. Coming up with a suitable comparison is tough: maybe Peter Kopteff? Gerry McMahon? Some may suggest Michael Kightly but I am afraid that is being way too flattering for what McClean has shown so far. The manager has invested a lot of money and belief in this player: I really do hope over the course of the season that he turns out to be right and that the negative view I have developed of the player's ability turns out to be spectacularly wrong.
