Very happy with the manager appointment. Seems to be a straight talker and quite likeable, just hope he manages as well as he talks.
Most Stokies are worried about being too optimisitic. We were poor in the Premier League for a good 2.5 years, but that said as poor as we were last year we very easily good have stayed up if we didn't make a few stupid individual mistakes and throw away a lot of winning positions. Most of the damage last season was done in the first half (more so confidence wise). We seemed to sort our defence out in the second half of the season and that defence is still together now so I would personally be optimistic that we shouldn't be shipping goals and should be quite solid there. Our biggest problem was creating chances and then our strikers having the confidence to put them away, neither really happened.
We've seen our only creative midfielder from last season going, but I think most are happy with the business we've done with Ince to replace (especially at this level) and even though he's a divisive character McClean has impressed in pre-season and we're all rightly excited about Etebo who looks a cut above this league (I think we wouldn't have had a chance to get him if we didn't sign him up before the World Cup).
Afobe looks a player though if he can get enough chances created which we're yet to see after a really disjointed pre-season, he really could score a few.
On paper (still desperately need quality depth which we don't have) I don't think it's unreasonable to have us down amongst the favourites but I agree with a few above that I think we'll see a slow start and I'd be happy with a point on Sunday which is what I think it will be which won't diasspoint me whilst I'm sat in Elland Road with my shorts on.

I think we're going to struggle a little. maybe around 6th or 7th. Not addressed positions we need too. Buying shit Not getting rid of deadwood Awful pre season. Happy with rowett but don't like his more money jump ship attitude. Ince, Etebo, Afobe, they seem good signings? Which positions do you think havent been addressed? your not the Leeds manager in disguise are you. You know, couldn't be arsed to send scouts to our games so you thought you'd get the low down off us fans??? Only kidding I think this season could go any one of about 5 ways, we could run away with it, we could struggle but ultimately go back up. We could just struggle or we could really struggle and do a Sunderland Honestly I don't know which but I think we will be there or if there about so next may Been impressed with Rowett so far but you know how fickle us fans can be. Still think we need more firepower, a DM and cover in wide areas and full back.

We were shite last season, havent been the best in pre season, we struggle to create and if they give it to Diouf, he couldnt score in a brothel, unlike Berahino it's the only place he can score I expect us to lose 2-1, win 1-0 or a 0-0 draw, we will need to judge the championship standard against what we were dishing out last season. Forgot you had Berahino. When did he last score? Was shocked on the Villa forum to be told Agbonlahor hadnt scored for 12months or something like that. last time Bera scored was Friday in Spearmint Rhinos on the Hagley road in Birmingham. He's prolific

I think by the end of the season stoke have the quality to guarantee they will be there or there abouts. We will be stronger as the season goes on. There will be more signings for us, and the signings we have made have not bedded in yet. They've not trained together much, and the team on Sunday will feature 4 of them. This is the best time to play us I think. As for the season as a whole, I would expect the likes of Allen,Etebo, Afobe, Ince, Choupo, Bruno Martins-Indi, Shawcross, Jack Butland to ensure we finish either top 2 or near to that. As for Leeds, anything could happen with Bielsa. He could perform miracles, or it could go completely the other way. Either way if I were a leeds fan I would be excited. Sunday, a draw would be fine in the circumstances though I don't think Stoke will be doing anything other than trying to get 3 points in any game this season. I am excited as i think most Leeds fans are. Our squad though is paper thin in terms of quality. For example we know Adam Forshaw wont play Sunday, key midfielder. We sold (stupidly) Ronaldo Vieria recently so thats 2 midfielders down. Pontus Jansson who is our only real quality cb may not play Sunday down to lack of fitness. Thats 3 quality players down already, there replacements arent close to there level with the exception of Klich for Forshaw. Sounds like you're in for a thrashing then, but I won't hold my breath!

Stick my neck out.
Beharino starts his season of redemption , comes on as a sub and scores with an assist from Ince who has a blinder of a game

You've got 3 big names injured this weekend haven't you Cjay? How do you think you'll get on against us after reading these comments? I've said 1 - 1 or 1 - 2 stoke (bit of heart over head for he second result) We certainly have 3 players who were key players last season unavailable or gone. Jansson, Forshaw and Vieira (sold). Questions about the match fitness of some of our new lads to. Its definitely not a full strength side you will face worryingly. Jansson aside our cbs are very average. You guys arent confident which is a surprise, but relegation does that to you. If you play as well as you should (on paper) i still cant see us winning. But i am encouraged by the comments regarding your pre season and signings not bedded in yet. Elland Road will be rocking, that may be the extra push that we need Sunday. Still leaning towards us losing but its a funny old game. Not right; Etebo and McLean have been our best 2 players on initial showings. First game of the season is a lottery, lots of plans and ideas but they go astray, lots of "misunderstandings", and players "forget their lines". Diouf missed a sitter the other day when it would have been easier to score than miss. At the end of the day, if there is a winner, it will be the side that wants to win the most, and Leeds are playing in front of their home crowd. But what most clubs fear is no points on the board after a couple of weeks so they will settle for a draw too easily. Stoke can't score for toffee since November 2017, which was the last time we scored more than once in successive matches, so maybe we are due to score. At least we will have a couple of wingers prepared to have a go and supply the ball to someone. I'll be amazed though if we don't concede at least 1 goal, even against Leeds reserves.

Hello Stoke fans Last season i started going around our Championship rivals forums and having an old chat. Normally just before we played each other. Then the thread goes on the thread on our forum. Sooo. Just general things. Thoughts on your signings, your new manager , how do you see the season going for you and finally the game on Sunday. All responses greatly appreciated. Good luck for the season (as long as you finish below us) Orate pal 😊 If he stays then we have the best keeper in the division. Solid defence with a real speedster at rb. I'd be more concerned with the defence if we were still in the pram tbh. In my opinion, the best midfield in the league.Joe Allen, Etobe and Badou ( If he stays) I don't buy into this having a creative midfielder, a defensive midfielder and a box to box midfielder. They should all be capable of doing every role, and I think they are.Afobe, Mclean and Ince will be a handful for anyone. Squad could be a bit thin if we get injuries, but I think people are basing this on the premiership, but time will tell, and I'm sure there will be more players coming in. Always liked going to Elland Road, one of my best mate's is a big LUFC fan for his sins 😉 Best of luck apart from when we play you 😁 Our best period in the Prem came when we did have those type of midfielders.

No more Watford, Bournemouth, Brighton or Huddersfield and Southampton. Bring on Derby, Forrest, Leeds, Sheffield Utd and Wednesday, PNE and Bristol City. I’m getting excited.

Jansson aside our cbs are very average. Musik, Sweden, here. Jansson was pretty ok for us in the WC 2018. 👍 My brother is a Leeds fan. I think Leeds take the lead in the 1st half 1-0. Halftime break. Then it ends 2-2. The biggest problem for us must be to score 2 goals. We have only one forward, Afobe. But possibly Allen, Etebo, Bojan, McClayn or Ince can score - from midfield. ⚽ I like your brother good player Pontus, wont get better in this league. Should be interesting, your biggest problem is scoring, ours will be defending. Thanks for the response.

He will score the goal of the season Sunday now . . . . . . He has never scored a competitive goal for Stoke City. I witnessed him miss a penno v Southampton. I also witnessed his solitary assist v Arsenal. If he scores Sunday, Leeds are truly shite. Last goal of any description was v Monaco in 2017 in Switzerland. But we lost 4-1. I struggle to remember when he last had A SHOT ON TARGET... Trust me, our potential defence is really shite. If we push the full backs on our back 3 will consist of two midgets and our captain, affectionately known as "Captain Blooper".

Bojan, an old Football Manager favourite of mine, he has to be about 83 by now? He looked class a few times when i watched you on Sky, didnt hear anything about him last season? He's only 27 mate. His star burned bright very young. He's been out on loan for most of the last two seasons and has struggled generally since his serious knee injury three years ago. We'll see whether he can make an impression in the Champo but most doubt it tbh. All of which is a massive shame because he was simply superb when on form. Only 27, god feels like he has been around forever. Oh i didnt know about his loans, he seemed to be in your team doing well, then poof, gone. If he finds form again he im sure will be a real threat in this league, depends if his knees have what it takes to cope with a very physical and fast league anymore.

Remember Tony just about, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is still my favourite Leeds striker. Bojan, an old Football Manager favourite of mine, he has to be about 83 by now? He looked class a few times when i watched you on Sky, didnt hear anything about him last season? Shawcross, he could thrive in this league, great big powerful cb, could he struggle with pace though? Sanchez Flores was the one i really wanted us to get, didnt ever seem like it was a possibility though, happy with Bielsa, should be fun atleast. As an outsider looking in your squad seems really strong, but then you guys see them play, i dont, so what i think of your players may not be reality. You still have Crouchie who is just about my favourite person in the world, love Crouchie. "what would you be if you wern't a footballer" . . . . ."A virgin" . . brilliant Something like that, think we have got battered the last 2 or 3 times we have met. They are as you say, either of us could come flying out of the traps and put in a real quality performance, or neither of us could and we could limp our way to a dull 0-0. Thanks for the response mId 80's we beat you 6-2, the next season before we played your keeper said something like 'well we wont be letting 6 in this time' we won 7-2 Fortunately for me, i wasnt born

Thanks for the response Bojan spent a lot of time on the bench on loan at Alaves. He's only 27. I'm convinced he has it in him to be awesome again. He needs to be loved - hopefully Rowett can instil the confidence back in him. The main concern with Shawcross is whether his back holds up. If we can get 35+ games out of him, we stand a much better chance of promotion than without him. Williams is good backup, though I can't see him coming here for a season just for backup. Maybe Rowett can help him find some form again, simlar to Vydra for them at Derby. Got to be getting on those two, you have the dutch guy dont you still, Indi? He always seemed a decent player. Vastly experienced Williams and Shawcross, but pace wise probably not much between them, be interesting if someone gets behind them.

I'd like to think there's another £25m in Coates back pocket that he had earmarked as a contingency relegation kitty. I've got nothing to back that up, though.
