Pretty underwhelming to be honest. Still he will be coming as no.2. Are you sure about that ? 100% If Butland goes we then have to sign a number one.

Federici is absolutely hopeless, even as a no2. Relying on him to step in for our no1 is like relying on Haugaard to step in.
As a no3, he's a marginal improvement on Haugaard. As a no2, who you expect might have to play a game or 2 during the season, he's hopeless.
Krul would be better. I know he had a knee injury but it's hard to understand just how his star appears to have fallen. Pre-injury he was a very decent goalkeeper and a knee injury for a keeper is far less debilitating than an ankle injury for example.

He's beyond useless but it's a hard position to recruit for. You don't want to waste a young talent, or spend too much - particularly in our situation where we need to reduce cost as much as possible.
It leaves you with very few options.
I just hope he's cheap and it saves cash for elsewhere on the pitch where we'll need it.

Last time we were in this toilet league, we got out with a combination of Simmo, Russell Hoult and Carlo Nash. We'll be fine, especially if we have Jack Butland in goal.

Federici as a bench dwelling number 2 who plays the odd game is fine, but not as a regular starter. If Jack does follow Lee out of the door we would need better, with Krul a real possibility for me.

Similar sentiments when we signed Lee Grant. Andy Quy is a top goalkeeper coach and I’m sure whoever is brought in will be decent enough cover.

Letting Grant leave for free and replacing him with either of these 2 is madness. He was player of the season 2016/17 and still under contract. If Butland leaves as well or gets injured then we are in Kevin Pressman and Tony Parkes standard of goal keeping.

Russell hoult was an excellent keeper for wba and pompey, far better than federici ever was. Its hard to get two good keepers at premier league level let alone championship but surely to god thete has to be better than him? What about bo myhill?

Simmo was largely superb for us and was infinitely superior to federici. He was fantastic for a couple of years and his performance away at Spurs was a great send off, but he'd completely got the jitters by the promotion season. It was almost every week that the opposition would punt a ball into the six yards box and Leon Cort would conspire with Simmo to let them score an easy goal.

It was almost every week that the opposition would punt a ball into the six yards box and Leon Cort would conspire with Simmo to let them score an easy goal. Thats why i said largely superb for us. He had a mare (away at barnsley i think) and somehow his confidence just disappeared culminating in an horrendous late error away at preston that prompted nash's arrival. That short spell aside, simmo was brilliant for us.
