Be a bloody odd move for Hoilett to drop down to championship after just being promoted. Still as Afobe deal shows, stranger things have happened. I think he's one of those players that are great in the Championship but haven't quite got the quality for the Premier League. Maybe Cardiff know this and aren't going to offer him a new contract leaving us as his best option? No Cardiff have offered him a contract apparently and definitely want him to stay. We must have blown them out of the water if he chooses us!

Guessing we are offering him a hefty sign on fee? Peak age for a winger? π€

Hoilett would be a fantastic signing at this level, especially if he's out of contract and coming off the back of the best season of his career (11 goals and 12 assists)

Guessing we are offering him a hefty sign on fee? It's the only thing that differentiates us and signing for Cardiff. He'd have to get a whopping raise otherwise and I suggest he wouldn't.

If that's true and we're able to blow Premier League teams out of the water whilst in the Championship if does beg the question: what on earth were we doing over the last two years where we constantly dithered in the transfer market and ended up with such an unbalanced, shit squad?! It's already looking like the team that lines up on the opening day could be significantly stronger and better balanced than the team we started last season with.

The smart money says he is using our interest as a bargaining chip to get a better contract at Cardiff.
With that said he is 28 and probably appreciates his chances of actually winning anything are slim to none as he will probably never get the chance to make a move to a 'big club' now, there might also be little novelty to him when it comes to playing in the Premier League as he already has before with limited success at QPR and Blackburn.
As a result he might be thinking, go to Stoke City in a league I thrive in where I'll be paid a nice fat signing on fee and have a comfortable time there.

You'd have to think his agent is using us, he'd be stupid not to. Getting a couple of million signing on fee with a promise of PL wages if we get promoted. Stoke would be getting a great left winger for less than Β£5m he gets a bump he can spend now. Hes already played PL football so it's all about the cash. If Cardiff stump up he's quids in both ways. He can't lose.

He's got experience in the Champo as well with Birmingham and Derby. Good signing. Pace. Direct. How much did Bournemouth spend on him? 15million? Wouldn't want to be spending north of 10-12m on him. Birmingham Derby you say. Was rowett there? Edit - seen he was with GR at Birmingham, looks like this might have legs.

It's already looking like the team that lines up on the opening day could be significantly stronger and better balanced than the team we started last season with. Good question. maybe the answer is we were aiming too high (e.g. Fabian Delph), or simply unattractive to players who'd prefer to go to London clubs, or places like Southampton. We spent how many transfer window chasing Berahino, then when we got him persisted with him at the expense of not admitting he was a mistake and going and getting someone else. You say "last 2 years". 3 years ago our 2015 summer purchases were Wolly, Haugaard, Joselu, Given, Johnson, Moha, Telford, Waddington, Afellay, Molina, and finally Shaqiri, who we spent all summer trying to persuade to sign, while he waited to see if he could get a better club. Hardly a successful summer transfer window, only 1 player really paid off out of 11. As for "could be significantly stronger". We leaked the most goals in the Prem and still haven't signed a defender yet. Most of the talk in the media is just that, talk. Generated by agents trying to get a pay day. We are out of the traps with 2 good signings, that's great, but let's not get too excited, we have a mountain to climb yet.

Very odd.
Has any player with an obvious chance to play Premier League football turned his back on said club and gone to play a division lower?
It's either money, or he's been sold the dream / reality that we'll go straight back up and Cardiff will go down.
Perhaps a longer contract and guaranted first team football.
Either way, superb signing if we get him and for FREE!
