Awful game, awful commentary, awful atmosphere, and awful opening ceremony. I think I wd hv done a better job of the Putin translation, and I know maybe 3 words of Russian. I agree with the comment on here that would have beaten Saudi. And we are/were.....awful. Very nice 4th goal finish in fairness. You didn’t like Robbie then? 😉 Actually I don't mind Robbie at all. It is less perhaps that this opening ceremony was awful (which it was). More that ALL opening ceremonies are awful.

Is it just me or is this crowd a sterile hand picked audience, this is a first game of a World Cup tournament in your country and they all sit politely applauding, it’s typical Russian stage management. Yeah. Did you see the large groups of Slavic looking fellas (I'm assuming they're a Russian rent-a-mobs) all decked out in Saudi shirts and flags?

Alas I think that's how he saw many of our fixtures. In this case I'm glad we're free from his bilious scrutiny 😬 I thought he was always pretty fair with us though..... Either way it was painful 😁☹️😱

Watch the goalkeepers fake dive for that last goal.
Surely the dodgiest World Cup game in history, the whole Saudi team were on the take.
I’m sure we haven’t heard the last of this

Come on the London Olympics one was ace That is certainly the way it was received, but take away (what must have been a cripplingly expensive show) from the Games themselves - and the Games themselves (a triumph) would not have been diminished. Personally I would pare it (and the wretched closing ceremonies) right down and allow the sport to speak for itself. However I accept that mine is a minority (and a grumpy old git) view.

Not a bad start for the hosts but Saudi Arabia were awful. Russia would look competent in the Championship, Saudi Arabia should be playing in League 2.

Johanna, commentator over here said: Russia has 145 million people. Really? Most sparsely populated country in the world? Bangladesh has 163 million! Canada is about half the size (second biggest in the world behind Russia) but only has a population of 36 million. I believe Australia beats both for being huge and sparsely populated though.

What about us Antarcticans? Surely we get the gold medal for most sparsely populated bit of the world? Plus we have been overlooked for far too long as host of the WC, Olympics - and in particular Winter Olympics. A scandal. Come on FIFA - and the IOC. Address this quite schocking oversight.

Oh I shall continue with the amateur psychology I find it passes the time some what The whole difference between the previous Chinese ceremony and London was the China as a country is proud of its history we are selective and often told to be ashamed of it When I was a child I used to look through my older brothers atlas and felt pride in the fact a third of the map was coloured pink Now my grandchildren Are told to feel shame This country will never succeed in the future untill we stop being apologetic and show a backbone
